Welcome to our Self-Directed Services monthly newsletter, where we share updates, reminders, and helpful information to support you in self-directing your services.

Your Services, Your Story

Periodically, we highlight someone successfully self-directing their services with

The Arc, and this time, we are highlighting Mat!

Mat has been active in Self-Directed Services since 2008. Over the years, he has watched the service model evolve and gain popularity. Mat feels this has been a positive change with more people being made aware of the impact Self-Directed Services can have and that “it’s no longer obscure.”

During Mat’s tenure in Self-Directed Services, he has honed his skills as an employer and credits his Support Broker with helping him manage his employees. He has been able to retain staff for more than 8 years and believes that offering a flexible work schedule and building rapport is key. Mat feels one of the major benefits to self-direction is having the ability to train employees to fit the employer’s needs.

Mat’s tips for new Participants coming into self-direction include joining local advocacy groups and hiring a Support Broker that is well versed in the program. Mat advises that the responsibility of a self-directed employer should not be taken lightly, and a Support Broker can show new Participants the ropes.

Mat is passionate about advocating for the community and promoting Self-Directed Services at a legislative level. He is the Executive Director of People On the Go, an organization that provides advocacy training and other supports. He encourages all Participants to receive training as advocates to ensure they are effective in getting their message heard.

The Arc is currently seeking Participants to be featured in our May 2025 newsletter!

Self-Direction Team Spotlight

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Karin Dombrowsky, Manager of Participant Employee Compliance.

Karin joined The Arc in November 2023 and currently serves as the Manager of Participant Employee Compliance, where she leads both the Compliance and Training Teams. Under her leadership, the teams are highly motivated and committed, which makes her role both rewarding and fulfilling. Karin ensures that all Participants remain in compliance with the regulations set forth by federal and state authorities.

"Since transitioning into this role, I have truly enjoyed working with such dedicated co-workers and embracing the positive culture at The Arc. I take great pride in assisting those who use our services," Karin shared.

Fraud Prevention

As a recipient of Waiver services, it is important for you to understand your role in identifying, reporting, and preventing fraud as it relates to the services you receive from the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA). The potential consequences of fraud can be significant for Participants and Employees. For more information, please see Fraud Prevention for Employees and Fraud Prevention for Participants also found on our Forms and Resources Page.

Community Development Services Code Update

If you are approved for Community Development Services in the Detailed Service Authorization of your Person-Centered Plan as “Community Development Services 1-4" rather than “Community Development Services 1:1,” the budget line and service codes (if applicable) have been updated to reflect this in FMS Engine and Evvie. This update has been made to align with services approved in the PCP and does not require any action on your part or your employees or vendors, nor does it change the service you are receiving.

Paystubs and W-2s

As a reminder, employees can view their pay stubs and tax documents by logging in to the Paycom Self-Service Portal. Employees should select the "Employee" option under "Login" at Paycom.com and enter their credentials. If an Employee has not received their login credentials, please place a customer service ticket under “Paycom Self-Service Request.”

The Arc is here to assist with all your Self-Directed Services needs.

If you have questions or need assistance, our Stakeholder Relations team is available by phone 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday-Friday at 866.252.6871.
