Greetings Everyone!
OLYMPICS!! Yes! The opening ceremony was Incredible! So much to watch while enjoying thrilling sports. Continue to be amazed through August. Paris, mon coeur....
Into August we reflect on the amazing weather we've had this summer, some very hot days but followed by mild sunny dry weather, then cool rain. Enjoy.....
Make an effort to travel to the Eastern coastline this summer, especially the New York areas and ocean beaches. It is a "blessing" to just put your feet in the ocean, but jumping in and enjoying the waves is even more beneficial for your spirit. There are plenty of beaches in New York, many accessible by subway or train, (some by ferry).
I'm a coastal citizen from the Jersey Shore. After 31 years in Manhattan, I now call Long Island "home". In the past, living and working in Manhattan, we often enjoyed weekends and shared summer houses in Westhampton, Bridgehampton, Montauk & Fire Island. I fell in love with Suffolk County, all the farms, small quaint towns, woods and beaches - a different world out there. I usually take a 4-5 day solo trip to Montauk for my birthday in October and drive all over in my yellow Camaro convertible with my yellow boogie board in the back seat, (rad). I boogie board at Ditch Plains and "Poles" (Atlantic side surfing areas, then walk the beaches collecting "beach treasure" on the Long Island Sound side. Afterwards I dine solo at all the amazing seafood spots. It is a time when the town transitions from the crazy summer crowds into a more peaceful fall season returning to its small historic fishing village vibe. Viva Montauk!
My hometown of Long Beach has beautiful, clean beaches, surfing spots, great restaurants and an amazing 2.2 mile boardwalk with a designated bike lane. I love my town. I live in the "Trendy" West End, where everyone has porches and decks and engages in neighborly conversations. Lots of walking and biking in our town as well. Long Beach is on an island off of the Long Island South coast called Long Beach Island with the Atlantic on one side and the inland water way on the other - it's only 4 blocks wide. Several of our family commute to Manhattan to work at RG. We have college and public school young adults in Long Beach. I go to Manhattan to teach my fitness class on W. 72nd St. and hop a subway to W. 36th Street to my office three times a week. The LIRR Long Beach train to Manhattan starts in Long Beach and ends in Long Beach. It is a 55 minute commute on a comfortable train so I accomplish a lot of work. (we are 20 minutes by car to JFK, very convenient for travel and for guests to visit us).
"Always" advice: Spend time enjoying this special season, get in the water, stay outdoors' active, eat lighter (but more often), practice daily stretching, hydrate and meditate. Grow a garden and socialize with friends and family. Summer is a great time to start creative projects, continue to declutter and plan for a robust Fall and Winter.
All the best, Patricia
