Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust and MaineHealth’s Community Health program for a guided hike along the trails of Meadow Brook Preserve in Swanville on Thursday, August 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The trail has minimal elevation gain and winds through a variety of mature and newer forests and wetlands, with unique views into the wetlands around Hurds Pond. 

This hike is part of the Happy Wanderers walking series, which explores preserves and trails throughout Knox and Waldo counties. Led by longtime Coastal Mountains Land Trust member Bindy Pendleton, these hikes offer a chance to learn more about the Land Trust’s work to conserve land and connect people with nature across the western Penobscot Bay region.

Bring: Water, tick and insect protection, and binoculars if you have them.

Directions: From downtown Belfast, take High Street north out of town. Cross Route 1 and continue as the road turns into City Point Road, and then Oak Hill Road (stay right at the fork). After passing the Rail Trail City Point parking lot, reset your odometer, and continue 2.2 miles, the parking lot is on the right.

Bagaduce Music House Party Features Indian-Roots Fusion duo Aditi Sethi and Jay Brown

Aditi and Jay have been making music together since they met in 2003, blending Aditi's roots in Indian devotional song, ghazals, and Bollywood with Jay's roots in American folk, blues, and roots music (honed touring with his band Lazybirds, who once shared a stage with Doc Watson). That first spontaneous jam sparked a lasting musical partnership — as the world music duo Shantavaani, later as part of the folk group the Appalucians, and always as parents raising three musical kids along the way. Today they weave together sacred Indian melodies, Appalachian harmonies, and original songs into a sound entirely their own.

Join Coastal Mountains Land Trust, the Camden Public

Library and the Central Maine Astronomical Society for a magical

evening under the stars at Beech Hill Preserve at 7:00 p.m. on Monday,

August 17.

The evening will begin with a storytime led by Miss Amy from the

Camden Public Library, followed by stargazing with local astronomer

Tom Bucci and fellow members of the Central Maine Astronomical

Society. Explore the night sky through telescopes, learn about

constellations and celestial wonders, and enjoy the beauty of Beech

Hill after sunset.

This free event is open to all ages. Bring a blanket or camp chair, a

flashlight, and warm layers. Please leave dogs at home.

Final Open Garden of the Season in Lincolnville Tree Haven

From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on August 22, Greg Larsen will open his garden at 17 Tuva Trail in Lincolnville as the final event in the 2026 Belfast Garden Club Open Garden Days. The event will be held rain or shine. Admission is $5.00

This lovely space tucked into a woodland area in Lincolnville boasts an abundance of specimen trees. Larsen says his fascination with what trees can do and with their diversity and longevity in the landscape inspired his "mini-arboretum. "The wandering beds are more like a mixed tree and shrub border underlain with perennials, annuals, and vegetable beds. Woody plants range from two feet to 70 feet and are spread throughout the 1+ acre woodland bordered by a small pond.



Proceeds from the Open Garden Days events are used by the

Belfast Garden Club to fund its civic improvement projects, including

the care of 13 public gardens within the city, and

numerous educational endeavors in the schools and community.
