Hi there!

We're already into Week 8 of the Summer Share, and more than halfway through July! This week is full of some of the highlights of summer-- berries, peaches, zukes & cukes, tomatoes and much more. Keep reading to see what's headed your way!

Grass-fed beef is lean and delicious, and should be cooked just so. 'You are what you eat' goes for animals, too-- so we spend a lot of time and energy managing the quality of the soil and pasture for our grass-grazed animals. Click here to read more of Trevor's thoughts on raising cattle on grass

This week's bag has "Summertime" written all over it: peaches, a pint of blueberries, a bunch of beets, a head of lettuce, a pair of zucchini and cucumbers, a candy onion, and about a pound and a half of tomatoes (2-3 depending on size.) The Omnivore Shares will also get a pound of grass-fed ground beef: use it with our Burger Guide and slice up your tomatoes, onions and lettuce into a perfect summer dinner.

The Vegetarian Shares will get some broccoli, green bell peppers and a handful of heirloom summer squash from Wholesome Valley Farm: Ishtar zucchini, patty pans, and crooked neck yellow squash. If you get something wild and beautiful looking, post it on Instagram and tag us and the farm!

The Larges will also get a pound of pasta and some bulk Italian sausage, & the Vegetarian Larges will get a bottle of all-local Sunflower Oil (great high-heat sub for vegetable or olive oil), as well as some hot Hungarian peppers. Quick Pasta Night

A heads up on the beets (and re: the red cabbage last week): there is a chance that some of the routes might not be getting the beets, but will see a different TBD item instead. As always, we will keep you posted on any substitutions, either ahead of time on Facebook or at the stops.

We mostly work with traditional Amish farmers, and communication is almost entirely face-to-face or through snail mail. So when something doesn't pan out as expected, like last week's red cabbage crop for instance, by the time we get in touch with our farmers it might be too late to get another large order in with someone else. Well, why can't we save some of the produce from Tuesday and Wednesday farm runs for Saturday routes? We want each subscriber to be getting the same quality of produce, if not the exact same item. We don't want to give our members who pick up at the end of the week the same produce that the members got on Wednesday, because it's just not as fresh. Giving you the absolute freshest local produce we can find is our goal, so we apologize in advance if you get a substitution and we really appreciate your understanding.

REMINDERS
Use Vacation Credits within 4 weeks for their full value.

We know that Summer is when most people take off for a few weeks to a seaside getaway. We might be a little jealous, but we'll still give you four weeks off for R&R. When you get back, you'll see the credits posted to your account and you can use them to purchase extras.

You have four full weeks to use up your vacation credits from the date you return. After four weeks have passed, any remaining vacation credits are cut in half-- so use them up right when you get back.

How pro-rating works:

You can join our program at anytime in the season, even the very last week. So let's say you want to join us this week--Week 8--for a Small Share.

Here is what it looks like to pay Upfront:

  • Weeks remaining: 15 (Week 8 - Week 22)
  • Cost per week: $27
  • Total amount due: 15 x 27 = $405 (due right away)

Here is what it looks like on the Payment Plan:

  • Weeks remaining: 15 (Week 8 - Week 22)
  • Cost per week: $29.50
  • Total amount due: $442.50
  • That total is divided up into 6 installment payments by our system, averaging $73.75 each. You can catch right up and pay the first three right away, or you can choose to split it up differently. As long as you make a substantial payment at least once a month, and pay it off completely by the last week of October, that works for us.

If you're not a member yet, give us a call ( 800) 861-8582 or reply to this email and we'll be happy to help you sign up for a pro-rated share and you can pick up this week!

FEATURED PRODUCTS
SUNFLOWER OIL

If you want a local substitute for olive oil or vegetable oil, try out our delicious Sunflower Oil! Local chefs swear by it-- delicate enough in flavor to be drizzled on salads, but has a high enough smoke point that you can use it for sautéing and grilling. It's a snag too-- just $5 a bottle!

$5 per bottle (375 ml)
