NEWS FROM HILARY

  2017 Advent Greetings

Blessings and Peace to you! May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance! (Jude 2)

I extend my deep appreciation and thanks to the 135 Presbyterians who registered and to those present during the executive session at the Called Meeting of Northeast Georgia Presbytery, this past Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Many had to leave for other appointments and to tend to other pastoral concerns, and I am grateful for all who stayed through the course of a long meeting. I thank God for our Presbytery which embodied the virtues of love, faithfulness, mercy, righteousness and peace.

The Northeast Georgia Presbytery voted 99 to 6 in favor of the agreement in principal between the parties in the lawsuit, Alps Road Presbyterian Church vs. the Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church USA, which under the terms of the agreement must be held completely confidential in perpetuity.  In other words, what we can say from this day forward is "the parties have settled the matter, but the terms of the agreement are held in confidence."  This is a common practice in civil lawsuits. And for anyone present Tuesday, I will be glad to visit with you if you have further questions, thoughts or comments.

All thanks and praise to God for the partnership along the journey for all who've been involved, particularly the faithful members of Central Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) and their pastor Rindy Trouteaud, Andy Cooke, Brock Burnett, Linda Turner, Anita Green, Travis Adams, Moderator Ed Boland, and our attorneys.

I feel a deep sense of peace as we let go of the difficulties of the past and move forward into the New Year as Christian sisters and brothers serving in the mission field in Northeast Georgia and the world!  I continue to hold you all in prayer and wish you a joy-filled Christmas!
