Fello's Self-Directed Services Newsletter

Welcome to our monthly newsletter! Each month we share news, reminders, and helpful information for people who self-direct.

Your Services, Your Story

Each month, we highlight participants who are successfully self-directing their services with Fello. This month, we're featuring four siblings, Anthony, Shane, David, and Jesse, all of whom self-direct their services.

Their family credits Self-Direction with providing a safe and flexible model that allows each to tailor their supports to their unique needs.

For new participants to be successful, the family recommends:

  • Working closely with your Coordinator of Community Services (CCS) to review all available service options.
  • Offering meaningful benefits to your employees, such as healthcare reimbursement funds and paid time off.
  • Staying informed about any changes to the service model.

Changes to Invoice Submission in 2026

Fello continuously looks for ways to improve our processes so that we can respond quickly and make sure vendors are paid on time.

We've noticed that some emails include multiple vendor payment requests with supporting documentation. These combined requests take extra time to sort and review, which can lead to delays.

Starting January 1, 2026: We are requiring that each email include only one vendor payment request or invoice with the required supporting documentation sent to SDSVendor@fello.org. Submissions with more than one request will be returned.

This simple change will help us review submissions more quickly and ensure vendors are paid on time.

Thank you for working with us and helping us do our best for you!

Maryland Saves: A Savings Program

Maryland Saves is a way for Maryland workers to save money for when they retire.

For Participant Employers: If you are an employer in Self-Directed Services, you are not required to offer this program to your employees. If you received a letter from Maryland Saves, you can call them at 733-811-7437 to have your name taken off the list.

For Employees: Employees who work for someone who self-directs can enroll in the Maryland Saves Program. Call 733-811-7438 to learn more.

Employees who participate in the Maryland Saves Program can participate in two ways:

  • Setting up a bank withdrawal through Maryland Saves by calling 733-811-7438.
  • Setting up a Payroll Deduction through Fello by submitting a Direct Deposit form to SDSemployeeupdates@fello.org. On the Direct Deposit form, complete the "Additional Account" section for funds to be deposited into your retirement account.
