UT Health San Antonio Launches Its First Institutional Biobank
In tandem with efforts initiated two years ago by UT System Health Biobank Consortium, the UT Health San Antonio Institutional Biobank is providing investigators a curated approach to accessing biorepositories and tissue collections. The refreshed content was designed to make it easier for researchers to access the resources and services available at the eight core labs managed by the Office of the VPR.

Staying abreast of research literature is a must for any scientist. One investigator challenged herself to read at least one paper a day and did it for 899 days!

At UT Health San Antonio, investigators are working to identify how COVID-19 evades our innate immune system and blocks the body’s ability to quickly detect the virus.

The 43rd annual SABCS, virtual this year, is December 8-12th. Late submissions for abstracts accepted through September 30, 2020.

Recent and past insights detailing the characteristics of clinical trials aimed at understanding COVID-19.

Staying connected with co-workers spread across multiple campuses can be a challenge! A virtual book club got traction last month bringing together bookworms. The group discussed Radium Girls by Kate Harris, a true story of young women whose health suffered from occupational exposure to radium when painting dials to be luminous in the dark. The author sheds light on how the lack of corporate responsibility, not uncommon in the early 20th century, lead to national policies to protect the health and safety of workers.

The book group meets virtually every third Tuesday of the month from 12-1 p.m. Interested? Send an email to vprresearchpartnerships@uthscsa.edu to be added to the MS TEAMS channel.
