Dear Friends,
One of the blessings (and sometimes curses) of the internet is that it allows folks to share their knowledge about how to do things with others. You can find YouTube videos on how to caulk your bathtub, trouble shoot the software for worship slides, find ways to soothe your newborn baby, knit a cable stitch sweater, or lay kitchen flooring. That doesn’t touch all the ideas for how to do things you can find on Pinterest!
If you aren’t an internet browser, there are home shows, garden shows, wedding shows that folks can attend to be inspired or taught by other people. It helps us to see how other people do things!
Last Sunday, we were truly blessed to hear Jan Harsh share her story about how the encouragement and nurture from the women of Maplewood UMC impacted her decision to go back to school to become a high school teacher. This Sunday as part of our Freed-2-Lead sermon series, three lay people who are connected with the Maplewood UMC Faith community will share how their faith impacts the way they live their lives. We will be blessed to hear from Maplewood UMC members, Ray Jauregui and Rachel Ward, and a Community Unity ministry team member, Laura Reinders. Each of them, like each of us, have their unique ways of serving and leading in the world through the love of Christ. I believe learning from Ray, Rachel, and Laura will inspire us as we seek to take our own steps in serving on God’s behalf in the world.
I am looking forward to learning from you and with you this Sunday.
God’s grace and peace be with you,
Pastor Kim

All Church Lenten Study Information
Lent, the approximately 6 weeks leading up to Easter, begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14. This is a season during which some Christians choose to focus more intentionally on growing in their faith. Everyone is invited at Maplewood UMC to be part of an All Church Lenten focus which includes the invitation to commit to three things:
1. Spend time in prayer every day.
2. Attend worship every Sunday either in-person or online.
3. Commit to taking part in a weekly, 5 or 6-session small group discussion of the book “The Third Day.” And/or the learning sessions sponsored by LifewiseStL Urban Forum.
This year the worship services and small group discussions will be guided by the book, “The Third Day” which celebrates the power of the resurrection in the lives of people who knew Jesus during his ministry on earth and in our lives now! Through our LifeWise Academy program, we're dedicated to empowering the next generation, preparing them for a world of opportunities beyond high school. Our after-school program is designed not just to educate but to inspire our high school scholars to explore and prepare for their futures, whether that be in higher education, the workforce, trade schools, or military service.
We Need Your Voice!
This is where we need your help. We believe that real-world experiences and personal journeys speak volumes. Sharing your career path, challenges, triumphs, and insights could light the way for our scholars, encouraging them to dream big and work hard.
Volunteer Opportunity:
What: Share your career journey and insights with our scholars
When: Thursdays, 5-6 PM
Who: 15-20 eager high school scholars
Where: LifeWise Academy
Your story is unique, and it could be the very thing that inspires a young mind to pursue a path they hadn't considered before.
Interested in Making a Difference?
Please reach out to Jasmen O'Hara at johara@lifewisestl.org to express your interest or to learn more about this enriching opportunity. Every career has a story to tell, and we're excited to hear and share yours with our scholars.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our young community members. Together, we can empower them to build their own paths to success.
| |
|
Last week we discussed our differences and how everyone has gifts that are special to them and how we can use our individual gifts together!
Next week we will be learning about God's plan for our lives and that and that if we trust in him his plan will shine through.
