Mrs. Sagat Says...

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

This week marks the beginning of one of the most holy seasons in our liturgical year - the Season of Lent. Our school will be doing lots to prepare this season, including the dispersal of ashes to all students during our Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday, February 18. We invite you to join us at the 8:00am Mass to receive ashes yourself. Please also check out the flyer below to see just some of the many activities we have planned to help us reflect during these next 40 days.

This week is also Cougar Carnival, coming up on Friday, February 20! We are so excited for this event. Check out all of the details below. Cougar Carnival is a wonderful, family-friendly event and we are so thankful for the committee's hard work to bring this event to fruition. We can't wait to see you all there!

We are also pleased to announce that the Archdiocese of Milwaukee St. Gerard Scholarship applications are now open. You can find more details below but we encourage families to apply. Students in grades 2-8 can receive up to $800, and students going into 9th grade at a Catholic High School can receive up to $1,000.

A reminder that if you are a family who is applying for School Choice, the application period for February remains open until Friday. Apply online at https://dpi.wi.gov/choice. The first round of Choice applications closes on February 20. The window for applications would then re-open from March 1 - March 20. If you have any questions about tuition, registration, or school choice, please reach out to me directly at msagat@st-alphonsus.org.

Don't forget to check out some of the other great stuff coming up in the next few weeks, including the Father/Daughter Dance as well as a new Parents Night Out Event from Home & School, The Puzzle Guzzle. Parents have asked for more social events and we are trying to provide them, so be sure to get all the sign-up information below!

The Spring weather is certainly teasing us this week. Please be sure, however, that you continue to monitor the weather report and send winter & snow gear as appropriate. Thank you!

Have a great week!

Megan Sagat
Principal

Welcome, Mrs. Andresen!

Welcome to our new Office Administrator, Mrs. Gina Andresen! Please learn a little bit more about her below:

I have been married to my husband, Mark, for 27 years. We have two children at Carthage College: Matthew (21) and Anna (19). They both attended St. Charles Borromeo and St. Thomas More. We also have a sweet Goldendoodle named Auggie.

I have always loved volunteering and helping out as much as possible during my children’s school years. Through those experiences, I realized that a big part of me longed to work with both children and youth. I have also been a high school catechist for over 20 years, most recently assisting with Confirmation candidates and their retreats.

When this opportunity became available and was offered to me, I felt an immense sense of excitement, and gratitude. After my first week in the office, I can honestly say that I am blessed to be a part of the St. Al’s Community!

Please say hello to Mrs. Andresen when you see her and give her a warm St. Alphonsus welcome!

St. Gerard Scholarship Applications are Now Open!

Check out all the details and find a link to the application below.

The scholarship application can be downloaded here, and the applications are due to our school office by April 10, 2026. Applicants are encouraged to type the application.

Please contact Mrs. Schermetzler with any questions.

School Choice Information

The February School Choice Application Window Will Close on Friday, February 20

Think of the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program as a new form of financial aid available to our current families. Our goal with this program is to be able to better assist our families already attending St. Alphonsus in affording Catholic school tuition! Enrollment into this program opened on February 2 and we encourage those families who are interested to apply early. You can find more information on schoolchoicewi.org and see the income eligibility chart below to learn if you qualify. The portal for applications is now open for our first round and will close on February 20. Apply online at this link.

Girls on the Run is Back for the 2026 Season!

Registration is open from February 16th to February 22nd at this link.

GOTRSEWI.ORG

The Girls on the Run program inspires girls in Grades 3 through 5 to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

This year's practice dates will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:30pm. The season will run from March 23rd to June 1st.

Our coaches this year are Mrs. Domzil (5K teacher), Ms. Brennan (former 5th grade teacher), and Mrs. Knautz (3K teacher).

For questions, please reach out to Mrs. Domzil at kdomzil@st-alphonsus.org.

Track & Field Registration Now Open for Students in Grades 4-8!

Track & Field is one of the most inclusive and rewarding sports out there. Whether a student is new to athletics or already active in other sports, track provides a fun environment where everyone can participate, improve, and discover their strenghts. With events that range from sprints, distance running, and relays to long jump, shot put or high jump, there truly is something for every athlete.

Why join the track team?

  • Build confidence: Athletes set personal goals and see measurable growth throughout the season
  • Improve overall fitness: Track builds speed, strength, endurance and coordination; skills that benefit all sports
  • Stay active with friends: Practices are upbeat, energetic and a great social outlet after school
  • No experience required: Coaches teach all fundamentals and students can try multiple events to find what they enjoy

Please click on this link to sign up and do not hesitate to reach out to Athletic Director Nick Warrichaiet with any questions.
