And snacks and games too! All kids from age 3 – 5th grade are welcome on Sunday morning from 9:45 to 10:45.  Questions about Children’s Ministry? email brittany.l@maplewoodumc.org.

Dear Friends,

This week in the Tuesday prayer group one of the members lifted up in prayer that we often think of Lent as a time that is dismal and hard. We may give up things that we enjoy during Lent. We may become much more serious about spiritual or other forms of self-discipline. But this praying person noted that rather than serving as a source of gloominess, Lent can be a source of great joy ... because as we turn our hearts and minds toward God, we are more likely to experience God’s amazing love for us and for the world.

During Lent this year the sermon series theme is “Lookin’ for Love: In All the Wrong Places”. Yes, it’s like the song title. And, yes, it sounds a little corny, but through small group book discussions and devotional readings we will become mindful of the things that distract us from looking toward the source of all love, God. And, of course, we will focus on the ways we experience God’s love through the stories of Jesus found in scripture.

As I have for many years, before Lent this year I invite you as part of the Maplewood UMC Faith community to focus more intentionally on your spiritual growth during Lent by doing these three things:

--Pray every day.

--Attend worship every Sunday (in person if you are at all willing or able!) It is GOOD to be together on Sunday morning!

--Participate in a small group—whether it’s a book discussion or one of the regular prayer or caring groups that meet each week. (More information is in this newsletter.).

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions. In the meantime, I hope and pray that you, that all of us, be truly blessed in surprising ways during Lent as we turn our hearts, and minds, our whole beings toward the source of all love.

God’s grace and peace be with you,

Pastor Kim

Need Help putting the MUMC Phone App on your phone?

Meet after worship in the back of the sanctuary. There will be folks there to help you download the APP to you smart phone.

One of the main reasons for the app is to help have better communications among members of the church. There also is an events calendar, the opportunity to give online and you can fill out a "Connect Card" to show you were at worship.

Join the Lenten Small Group Study

During Lent everyone is encouraged to attend worship each Sunday and take part in a small group during the week. This year some small groups will discuss the book, You Are What You Love: The Spiritual Power of Habit by James K. A. Smith.  Other groups will focus on their insights from the daily devotional, Embracing the Uncertain: 40 by Rev. Magrey R. DeVega. Samples of each of these books will be available for you to look at on Sunday.
