Big Shout Out to TJ's Kate Jordan Little as the only Colorado female athlete to have individually qualified and competed in both the State Diving and the State Swimming Championships this year - that's out of all 5A, 4A and 3A athletes! Great accomplishment, Kate. Spartan Strong!

TJ SkillsUSA members worked together to make 52 lunches for the Warren Residence homeless shelter in Denver. Essential Skill: Work Ethic. Way to go, Skills! Thank you for your work ethic and service to the community!

Choice of Studies: It's time to choose classes for next year! |

This week in advisement students will be selecting the classes they want to take next year. Hopefully teachers have been giving suggestions about what the next step is in their subject or elective, but we also want to share the grade level choice forms with you so you can look for yourselves! Here is also a link to the video explanations for each class. Good luck and let your counselor know if you have any questions!

Baseball Tryouts and Parent Meeting |

Baseball tryouts will run the week of Feb 28 through Mar 5. There will be a parent meeting via Zoom on the night of Feb 28, starting at 7:30 pm. It is very important for all parents to attend as we will go over information about parent behavior during games, communication with coaches and other expectations for the season, summer baseball, practice schedules, and other important information. The Zoom link will be posted in our Remind group. You can join the group by downloading the Remind app and using the code @tjbase or email Coach Baughn (graham_baughn@dpsk12.net) and ask to be added.

All School Vision and Hearing Screening: March 14th - 17th |
|

|
On these dates all students in all grades will be screened for vision and hearing deficits during one of their elective classes. Normally, only 9th grade students are screened. However, since universal screenings were missed during 19-20 and 20-21 school years, the plan is to screen all students so we have current assessments on file.
Please contact the school nurse at (720) 423-7061 or email kristine_serrano@dpsk12.net if you wish to have your student(s) opt out of the screening process.

Spartan Staff Grants Request Window is Now Open!
TJ PTO's primary mission is to enhance and support the educational experience at TJHS. With that goal in mind, PTO has budgeted $20,000 to distribute as Spartan Staff Grants! This is DOUBLE the amount we have been able to provide in the past, and is made possible by the fundraising done through the PTO's online auction. Your support of the auction directly benefits all TJ students.
Do you know a teacher or staff member who may have a need for grant money? It's time for any staff member to submit a request for a TJ Auction funded Spartan Staff Grant to help support students in whatever class or activity they lead. Last year, grants funded by the TJ Auction were used for equipment and supplies to support the departments of Special Ed, PE, JROTC, World Languages, Counseling, Art, and Math.
TJ Staff: Please submit Spartan Staff Grant requests using this Grant Request Form. All requests are due by the end of the day on Friday, April 1st.

The 6th Annual TJ Online Auction is coming up the week of April 10-14.
The Auction is TJ's only school-wide fundraiser and proceeds from this year’s Auction will be dedicated to helping those in our TJ community and awarding classrooms grants:
- Supporting our community members in need is a huge priority. Auction proceeds will be available to support our TJ community including, but not limited to, helping those experiencing food insecurity.
- Our Classroom Grant program supports our teachers in their work to deliver an exceptional educational experience for all TJ students.

In order to reach our goal to raise $20,000 this year, we need your help to acquire auction items! It’s easy—when you are in a business (restaurant, salon, your favorite shops), ask for their support for our auction this year in the form of a gift card or an item to auction! Or reach out to family and friends who own businesses and ask for their support. Anything works, and is appreciated! Print a few copies of the attached letter to have in your car to hand to businesses when you ask for a donation. The letter provides additional details about the event, delivery instructions as well as TJ's tax-id # as all donations are tax deductible. Hey 9th Graders! Do you have a grade of 62% or below in any of your classes?

TJ wants to celebrate YOU and YOUR hard work when you exhibit these Spartan Values!
Aspire to Achieve:
On March 9th and 23rd during lunch Ms. Taylor will be supporting students in Rm 111. Lunch will be provided for those who sign up.
Academic Accountability:
Students have an additional opportunity to earn some free swag by checking off some items in their 9th Grade Success Passport!
Ms. Taylor is located in the counseling office and is open to setting up smaller sessions.

BOOSTING BRAVERY has just launched its WEBSITE -with a little video to boot. REGISTRATION for Spring 2022 is now open!
We are now signing up middle and high school age girls* from anywhere in the US.
BOOSTING BRAVERY is the FREE leadership program that is all about boosting girls’ emotional and social resiliency skills for life's offline and online challenges (think social media and more).
Spread the word to anyone who believes in our mission that uniting girls to spread mental wellness skills in our digital age is urgently needed.

Did You Know…?
March 4th- 5th is National Day of Unplugging!
Let’s challenge ourselves and hold each other accountable! From sundown on March 4th to sundown March 5th is National Day of Unplugging. This day is designed to help people of all ages to embrace the ancient ritual of a day of rest and re-connect with others, yourself, your hobbies without the constant electronic distraction.
The goal of this important 24 hours is to open our eyes to how tech is so immersed in our lives. For some of us, our device is like a third hand. Starting with just this one day, we encourage you to step back and get a new perspective on your tech time, by not having tech time.
Why? To increase social connections, to reconnect with friends and family, to give your eyes a break, to prove you can do it (hey, I don’t need my phone!), to check-yourself and re-set your intentions, to re-discover ‘the good old days’ when we didn’t have these everywhere we went, to give yourself better sleep- the list can go on and on. We know it is not convenient, but that is why it is an important challenge.
How? Encourage your family and friends to make a commitment together. It will be easier to hold each other accountable if you are all in it together.

Class of 2022: Institutional Scholarship deadlines are approaching! Be sure to apply ASAP!
Make note of your institutional scholarship deadlines. These opportunities are one of THE BEST forms of $$$$ for college available to you. Apply to the institutional scholarships for at minimum your top three colleges to which you’ve been admitted! This typically means you need to create your college email addresses and passwords. Many apps are due March 1st!
Your college(s) may also be asking you for more information in order to award you financial aid.

Class Donations – Every dime counts!
Sophomores are quite possibly the best “10s” out there! Gather those dimes (pennies, quarters, and ten-dollar bills too) and make a donation to the Class of 2024; money raised will be used for the Class of 2024 After Prom.
