NEWS FROM HILARY

Brothers and Sisters in Northeast Georgia Presbytery,

I pray God's blessings, peace and mercy be yours in abundance in this New Year! Also let's celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Northeast Georgia Presbytery: in the summer of 1987 three Presbyteries (Athens, part of Augusta-Macon, and the Georgia Presbytery) merged and the first meeting of the new Northeast Georgia Presbytery occurred on January 23, 1988.

Your Coordinating Team will meet exactly 30 years later, on January 23, 2018 to participate in another of God's new beginnings. I am full of hope and positive expectations for the year ahead. By the time of this CT meeting there will have been meetings of Committee on Ministry, Committee on Preparation for Ministry, Budget Finance Initiative Team, Presbytery Meeting Arrangements Team, and Staff Meetings with our new Stated Clerk, Stu Ritter.

Also there will be a gathering of the Congregational Connections Ministry Team with anyone interested scheduled for Saturday, February 3. Then on the following Saturday, February 10, the members of the CT and all other chairs of Committees, Teams and Commissions will gather with Stu Ritter for leadership conversation and goal-setting. Finally, don't forget that everyone is invited to attend the World Mission Conference at First Presbyterian in Gainesville on January 26-27. The keynoter is a good friend and colleague, Rev. Dr. Jose Luis Casal, who is the Director of World Mission in our denomination.

Speaking of world mission, our own Young Adult Volunteer in Peru, Mielan Barnes, from Sardis Presbyterian Church, is doing great in her assignment. I received the following post card from her at Christmas, addressed to the Presbytery: "Greetings from Lima, Peru! I would like to thank you all for all of the support and prayers you have sent my way thus far. I am doing very well and learning new things about the world and myself every single day. I am so blessed and thankful for this experience. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Mielan"

You can also learn about asset mapping, teaching Christian Education with the WOW factor, or sharing hospitality beyond the congregation into the world.
