The Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department (BPRYCS) Main Office will be closed Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Learn to Swim Winter

Registration for Winter Learn to Swim (February - April) opens on Tuesday, January 23rd for residents and Wednesday, January 24th for Non-Residents.

There is no Learn to Swim on 2/17, 2/18, 3/30, or 3/31.

Winter Weather Closure Policy -

This is a reminder that when Bristol Public Schools are closed, the Dennis Malone Aquatics Center (DMAC) will be closed. When Bristol Public Schools observe a delayed opening, DMAC will open at noon. When Bristol Public Schools dismiss early, DMAC will close early with notification to all participants.

While BPRYCS encourages community members to register for programs in advance, we have a number of programs that offer "Drop In" participation. Want to give it a try first? Not sure if you can commit? Drop In -

Youth Training & Conditioning

Ages 8 - 12

Bristol Arts & Innovation Magnet School (BAIMS)

Is your child active enough? Are you looking for new ways to get your child moving? Would you like to improve your child's sports performance? The BPRYCS Youth Training & Conditioning program focuses on fun ways to improve your child's coordination, build endurance and strength, as well as improve flexibility through exercises that are easy to follow. Adult Fitness and Conditioning

Ages 18+

Saturdays, 8:00 - 8:45 AM

Adult Fitness and Conditioning offers a fun, upbeat full body workout. A combination of different workouts and muscle groups will be targeted to ensure that you get the most out of this program. This class is geared towards building cardiovascular fitness while improving muscular strength and endurance. This program is designed for all fitness levels, and will help improve your overall fitness by building muscle, burning fat, and boosting overall health. Learn More

Co-Ed 3 on 3 Basketball 

Tuesdays, 7:40 - 8:25 PM

Session 1: January 9th - February 13th

Chippens Hill Middle School

Participants in this program will work on the fundamental skills of the game of basketball, as well as participate in organized games of 3-on-3 each week. Teams will be changed every week to ensure that games are fair and players have an opportunity to play with new teammates. Learn More

Senior Chair Fitness 

Ages 55+

Saturdays, 9:00 - 9:45 AM

Session 1: January 6th - February 10th

Session 2: February 24th - March 30th

Bristol Arts & Innovation Magnet School (BAIMS)

Senior Chair Fitness is a low impact class designed to prevent injuries while increasing muscle strength and energy levels. This 45 minute class focuses on cardiovascular aerobics, strength building, relaxing stretches using an exercise ball and resistance bands, hand held weights and a chair for those who prefer seated exercises and need additional support standing. This program is suitable for seniors of all fitness levels. Learn More

Self Defense

Ages 12+

Sundays, 1:00 - 2:00 PM

January 7th - May 26th

Bristol Arts & Innovation Magnet School (BAIMS)

Self Defense class will teach protective tips on how to avoid confrontations as well as self-defense techniques when conflict cannot be avoided. This class is instructed by Sensei Frank Shekosky, who has owned and operated Cromwell Martial Arts since 1993. No previous experience is necessary for this class. Learn More

Bristol Eliminating Substance Use Together (BEST) is a Drug Free Community Coalition with a focus on reducing youth substance misuse in the Bristol community. BEST works to unify the community and promote wellness through increasing education, implementing strategies, and enforcing policy to prevent substance misuse. BEST hosts monthly Narcan trainings and coalition meetings, and educational community events with an emphasis on wellness. BPRYCS held an All-Staff Meeting and Holiday Party which included a meal, team building/problem-solving/communication activities, a review of the findings from the All-Staff Engagement Summit with an action plan for 2024. 

A big thank you to the Main Street Community Foundation and the Manning/Sisson Memorial Fund for their continued support of the Bristol Splash Swim Team!

BPRYCS attended the December City Council meeting on Tuesday night for a formal presentation of the National Gold Medal Finalist Plaque presented by the American Academy of Parks and Recreation Administration.
