Soroptimist House of Hope
President's Message
|
Happy New Year everyone. As we start 2018, new laws take effect which include the selling of recreational marijuana in our state of California. The people had spoken last year by voting to legalize the recreational use marijuana, not realizing what affect it would have on treatment for addicts with addiction to drugs and how easy it will be to purchase marijuana. Soroptimist House of Hope will continue to provide the best education possible and provide quality treatment to the women coming to us seeking help to overcome addiction. While the new marijuana law is controversial, we are hoping that the revenue generated may somehow come back around to help us with providing addiciton services to our clients.
SHOH continues to have needs that are more important than ever to keep our facility moving forward. Help with donations, grants and support from people like you will keep our doors open and give the needed counseling and treatment for women trying to get back on the path of recovery and a better life.
We hope we can count on you this 2018 to keep supporting SHOH anyway possible.
Thank you all so much!
Sincerely,
George Fisher
Executive Board President

OCTOBER 2017 - DECEMBER 2017
As another year ends and a new one begins I continue to be amazed at just how quickly time seems to be flying faster and faster. A movie I watched as a child used to last an eternity and now, if I blink, it is over. This realization makes me ever more grateful for the ability to practice living one day, better still, one moment at a time. Congratulations to our Director/Program Manager, Lupe Stoneburner on her anniversary with SHOH - 16 years on January 2, 2018. Thank you for your devotion and loyalty to our labor of love! We have had so many exciting changes take place in 2017 with more on the horizon for 2018. The SHOH staff continues to work very hard at providing the best possible services to our clients by partnering with Riverside University Health Systems-Behavior Health-Substance Abuse and Prevention Treatment Programs who continues to provide the necessary trainings to keep us in compliance with their high standards and those of DHCS (State Department of Health Care Services). We look forward to receiving our License and Certification renewal for the Desert Hot Springs facility and are preparing to increase our services to RUHS-BH-SAPT in our Recovery Residence facility in Banning. In addition, SHOH continues to partner with CCAPP for certification, legislative and technical support. SHOH wishes all of you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Look for more exciting news regarding SHOH and upcoming events in other areas of this newsletter.
Your support is deeply appreciated by our Board of Directors, our Staff and the women we help recover from the ravages of addiction.
In love and service,
Cynthia A. "Oma" Gray, CADC-II, ICADC
Executive Director

IN LOVING MEMORY
Beverly J. Montgomery
1927-2017
|
Our dear friend Bev passed away on December 4, 2017 at the age of 90. Bev was a beloved supporter of Soroptimist House of Hope since our inception in 1981. She was a very classy woman and shared her style and experience with so very many people. Bev was the Charter President for Soroptimist International of La Quinta in 1984 and was a shining example of Soroptimist character and values. We will miss her beautiful presence at our SHOH functions but know she will always be with us in spirit.

Soroptimist House of Hope relies on the generosity of corporate and foundation funders to provide grants that support our efforts to provide our services. So far in program year 2017-2018, we have received grants totaling $70,200 from the Doyle Foundation, Berger Foundation, Employees Community Fund of Boeing California, and Smart & Final Foundation. The Doyle Foundation's generosity will underwrite the operating expenses of our transitional living home in Banning for the next two years, and the Berger, Boeing, and Smart & Final gifts will help us deliver our full range of residential substance use disorders treatment services for 65 women in the coming year. We extend our sincere appreciation to all of our corporate and foundation supporters, as well as the generosity of our local Soroptimist clubs and individual donors. Thank you for your support of our efforts!

Thank you so much for your support. Because of SHOH, I was able to become a good daughter, mother and friend. The staff taught me coping skills for life. I am forever grateful to SHOH. It is my foundation in recovery and my home whenever I need support. I found God and humility in this house and I thank you for my new life.

I came here a defeated, broken woman who had lost her way. I can honestly say that SHOH has given me the tools to find the path God wants me to follow. I felt very blessed with all the patience and understanding the staff has shown me. They are great examples of success in recovery. Thank you so much for the amazingly generous opportunity to get a new outlook on life. I will treasure my experience at SHOH always.

"
From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt a very sweet, peaceful presence. I was met with smiles and hugs from my peers staff alike. In the House of Hope I have discovered an awareness that I never knew existed in my previous attempts at recovery. If I had only known about this beautiful place sooner. It was in God's time and I am grateful for all the miracles I've experienced here and all the love, compassion and faith I've been given from everyone. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone at SHOH who believed in me and helped me to build a strong foundation for my recovery. Your support means the world to me. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the sisterhood at SHOH and I plan to stay in touch. You have definitely shown me a new way of living, renewed self-worth and how to love myself again. I was given a renewed relationship with my Higher Power and most importantly help in reunification with my children. I love you all so very much.
