Fund Raising Committee Meeting RESCHEDULED - Wednesday, 1/24 at 7pm
The PTO’s ability to support TJ is fueled by our annual fund raisers. We’re in a transition year and need your input on how to raise funds for our Spartan Grant Program and other PTO initiatives. Please join us on Wednesday, 1/24 from 7-8pm in the Cafeteria at TJHS. It’s right after the Class of 2026 Parent Committee meeting, so Sophomore parents, feel free to come to both!
Please consider being a PTO Leader for 2024-25!
No prior PTO experience is required! Contact us to learn more about these and other
opportunities to give back to TJ:
| |
|
President or Co-Presidents: This position serves as the facilitator of the
PTO’s monthly meeting and handles administrative (non-banking) duties. It
can be shared between two volunteers as Co-Presidents.
Vice President: The VP assists with the monthly PTO meetings and
participates in activities as their schedule and interest allows. The Vice
President position does NOT automatically become President in a
subsequent year.

We are currently in need of additional 9 host families for a group of high school students participating in an exchange program from Chiben Gogo in Japan. The students will be living with and attending school with students here at TJ. They will attend each of their classes but they will have their own work provided from their schools in Japan. These students study English in Japan so, although they are not fluent in English, they have the tools to communicate in the language. They simply need practice and exposure. The students will be with us from March 6th through March 24th when they will return to Japan together. Of the remaining students, there are 8 girls and 1 boy in need of a host. If you are interested and able, please contact Mr. Jackson at kjackso@dpsk12.net for more information. This is a tremendous opportunity because it opens the doors for our students from TJ to travel to Japan and be hosted with families there as well.

TJHS is excited to announce that Thomas Jefferson High School will be providing CHALLENGE DAY to our Junior class. It will be a one day event broken down by alpha on February 13th and 14th.
There is also a $20 participation fee to help offset the cost of the workshop which includes professional facilitators. Lunch will be provided. Please log into my school bucks for payment of fee. If you need assistance, please email Sdavis@dpsk12.net

What is Challenge Day?
Imagine a school where everyone feels safe, loved and celebrated. Imagine enemies finding common ground and making peace; friends healing past hurts and making amends; people igniting their passion for service and leadership; adults and youth working together to create a school where everyone is included and thrives. The program addresses issues such as self-esteem, bullying, oppression, violence, etc. It is a cultural building opportunity that creates change makers. This is Challenge Day.
If you are curious of what challenge day looks like you can YouTube it. It premiered on MTV, Chicken Soup for The Souls and OPRAH. Here is a great glimpse at what challenge day does for the community: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdwcJrDDhQ4
Every Junior is asked to participate. Please click on the link and let us know if you're opting out your student: Opt Out Form
If your student opts out, the expectation is that they will be in school participating in their regular schedule.

Mental Health and Social/Emotional Tips
Did You Know...?
(en español)
Taking a break from your social media is good for your mental health.
Logging out of your Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media accounts for a week can boost your well-being by as much as 22%.
Taking a tech breather can also lessen symptoms of anxiety and depression.
SO, in order to help your kids engage in this activity, you can try it too! Maybe make it a whole family challenge. Whoever can go without accessing social media the longest wins a prize or gets a special privilege.
Help them think about their emotional reactions by having them score themselves (1-5 scale) the week before the challenge/tech break, and the week of the tech breather. Have a discussion about where their levels are and why?
