The Congregational Connections Ministry Team will present "Discussions in the Round" on February 3, 2018 at the Presbyterian Student Center at UGA. The cost will be $10 which will include lunch.   Please click here to register.

Everyone is invited to join First Presbyterian Church in Athens as Montreat President Richard DuBose comes to present " Finding Sabbath at Montreat. " This event will be held on February 21st at 6:30 p.m. You are also welcome to join us for dinner, which begins at 5:45 p.m. For dinner reservations please visit firstpresathens.org 
 
The Montreat Conference Center is a ministry of the PC(USA) located outside of Asheville, NC. For over 100 years, they have provided a sacred space to encounter God through relationships, renewal, recreation, and rest.

As authors are encouraged to do these days, I want to let you know, as one of my colleagues and friends, that I was asked to write the 2018 Lent Bible Study for The Thoughtful Christian.  If you, a Sunday School class, or your congregation is looking for a Six Week Bible Study for Lent this year, I'd encourage you to check it out.
 
In two different congregations we have taken the entire season of Lent to focus on Holy Week as I've found it is so easy for many to skip straight from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday without reflecting on the significant events in between.  Those experiences, sermons, and lessons formed the basis for this study:
 
Reflecting on Holy Week with the Gospel of Mark
Spend the entire season of Lent with Jesus in Jerusalem.

Beginning February 16, Dr. Walter Brueggemann will address The Prophetic Imagination in the 21st Century. Brueggemann is professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary and one of the most prolific and influential Bible interpreters of our time.

Welcome Home!  This familiar greeting can be the message you send to visitors to your church services. Hospitality is a biblical principle we should be learning and using in our lives and churches. Come to the Association of Smaller Congregations seminar March 16-18, 2018 at St. Simons Island, Ga. at Epworth by the Sea to learn how to send out the message of hospitality in your neighborhood and the world. You can also learn about asset mapping, teaching Christian Education with the WOW factor, or sharing hospitality beyond the congregation into the world.
 
Registration information can be found at www.presbyasc.org and is now available through Feb. 22, 2018. Costs start at $ 175 per person. You may also contact our registrar, Maurine Resch at 706-373-9480.  
 
Northeast Georgia Presbytery has scholarship funds available to help offset costs, contact Anita Green for information.

Prayer Concerns and Celebrations

Rev. Tara Bulger, minister member of Northeast Georgia Presbytery, recently loss her mother, Ms. Claudia Rome. Her memorial service will be announced later. Please pray for Tara and her family as they cope with this unexpected death.  
 
Mr. Norm Gullick, Clerk of Session of the Lavonia Presbyterian Church, passed away on January 20, 2018. He was very active in the congregation where he taught Adult and Youth Sunday School. He loved music and played many musical instruments and he was a member of the choir. He also participated in the Lavonia community mobile food bank. Norm lived his Christian commitment and he believed in giving back to the community in which he lived. Please remember his wife and their family at this difficult time.
