Soroptimist House of Hope
President's Message
|
April 2021 - June 2021
Happy Summer! And the phrase of choice to follow- Stay Cool!
As we end this fiscal year Soroptimist House of Hope remains on solid ground and because we have excellent staff and associates, we expect it to continue!
For a fundraising and socializing project in May we held a virtual Mothers Day Tea Party and had a delightful time with speakers and presentations from our financial advisors along with introductions of our Board of Directors and Staff to our attendees. We shared a “tea party in a box” that allowed for the tea time experience with sweet favors included. We hope to repeat this event next year and have an even greater turnout!
We are now planning our 40th Anniversary celebration, A Day of Hope, to be presented virtually on September 18, 2021. We have some special ideas and hope to make this a “must see” event that you won’t want to miss! Details will be forth-coming.
We hope that everyone will enjoy this summer in every way they can as the country opens up again. Please stay safe and count your blessings as we move forward.
May God bless us all.

April 2021 - June 2021
This second quarter of 2021 has gone by so quickly. As I think about where we were a year ago, I am extremely grateful we are still doing business. Californians are picking up the pieces and re-opening all around us. So much has changed. SHOH remains the same other than some tighter sanitation guidelines.
I would like to announce that we have hired 2 more staff members for the DHS house. New, bright, smiling faces, each one has brought their own kind of “special” with them and loves what SHOH does for the women we serve. Compassion and empathy can not be taught, either you have it or you don’t, and these 2 new additions definitely have it, along with many other genuine attributes. WELCOME HOME Jackie and Cynthia!
The Mother’s Day virtual tea party was successful, and we are hoping to have it as a yearly event. For everyone that helped and all those who donated and attended, Thank You! Now, we are preparing to produce our yearly “A Day of Hope” fundraising event. There will be more to come on that subject. Until next time, stay cool and be of good cheer. Love always.
Your support is deeply appreciated by our Board of Directors, our staff and the women we help recover from the ravages of addiction.
Peace and Good Health to You,
Rebecca Norton, CADC-II, ICADC

IN MEMORIAM
PAUL BRADLEY LITTLE
August 15, 1975 - May 3, 2021
Paul Bradley Little went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2021 after a valiant fight against cancer. Paul is the beloved husband of our long time alumni Monica Werner-Little. He was an amazing husband and father to Emily, Aubrey and Ashley. He was an avid surfer, motorcycle and hot rod enthusiast. A beautiful Celebration of Life as held on May 29, 2021 where his lifelong friends gave an awesome eulogy. Paul's sense of humor was over the top. He is loved beyond the beyond by all of his family and friends. He is sorely missed. A great man gone too soon. May he rest in peace.

PREVIOUS EVENTS
April 2021 - June 2021
Due to continued COVID-19 mandates, our usual events have been cancelled for the time being.
SOROPTIMIST HOUSE OF HOPE, INC.
COVID-19 STATEMENT
March 17, 2020
Soroptimist House of Hope (SHOH) is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our clients, staff and the community in response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. Due to the critical and potentially life-saving nature of our mission to help women with substance use disorders, we will continue to conduct our residential treatment programs at our Treatment Center in Desert Hot Springs and our Transitional Recovery Residence in Banning.
SHOH is following all guidance provided by the Centers of Disease Control, California Department of Health Care Services, and Riverside University Health Center (County of Riverside Departments of Behavioral and Public Health) in maintaining the health and safety of our clients, staff, and the community. Our clients and staff have been directed to practice social distancing techniques whenever possible as well as enhanced personal hygiene and self-care. Frequent and thorough cleaning procedures have been implemented at our facilities. We are screening all staff and clients for symptoms of COVID-19 on a daily basis, limiting group activities within the Treatment Center and Transitional Recovery Residence, suspending all off-site 12-Step meetings, volunteer, and social activities, prohibiting non-essential visitors, and facilitating immediate medical care for anyone displaying symptoms.
We are confident that these practices will keep our clients and staff healthy while we provide our valuable services to women in need. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email at houseohope2@aol.com or by phone at 951-849-9491.
Please take care and stay safe. Thank you for your support.

Hello All My beautiful women of House of Hope,
As you know, I have been to treatment before and never have I got the attention and care I received here. No matter how busy you ladies are, you are always willing to take the time and talk with us. Making sure we are heard. The teachings here are so extremely important. I loved working my steps. It has taught me so much about myself and my disease. It has taught me how to deal with anger, parenting, life skills, coping skills and reasons why we use. I can’t lie, we all think about leaving but the women here keep me from reverting back to my old self. No more running away from my problems. I love this house and believe it does give us hope. You are not losing woman, you ae gaining one. I’ll be back to be of service and I am excited. Anonymous
Thank you for teaching me how to love myself again. I feel like a changed woman. Life is good today. I owe it all to you ladies, Love you all. S.L.
Dear Soroptimist House of Hope Directors,
I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to recover from alcohol addiction at House of Hope. For about 33 years, I drank alcoholically. Although I tried several times to stop drinking on my own and through AA off and one with some outpatient classes, I was unable to stay sober. At last I realized that treatment in a residential setting, where I could be

given strong tools and learn to live a sober lifestyle, was the key to my continued sobriety. I found that in House of Hope. Staff members here, especially my counselor Arla, have helped me though this part of my recovery and given me the tools in a structured environment. I will thankfully move on to Hope’s Horizons in Banning. Again, thank you for your support. Finding House of Hope has truly been a blessing. Sincerely, L.A.D.
Thank you Soroptimist Women. This is my sincere and genuine thank you to the Soroptimist women. When I came to the House of Hope, I was lost and broken. My disease was running my life and I really am so grateful to the Soroptimist women for giving me a new chance at life. I am forever grateful. Thank you. Sincerely your, S.
Dear Soroptimists,
I just wanted to thank you for being so kind and for having a beautiful place for women to go to get their life back on track. I hve been to many different programs but not a single one has been like this on! There is definitely something very magical about this house. I am so very blessed and forever grateful I was given the chance to change my life. It takes a very special place in your heart to want to help women the way you do. So Thank you for that. Thank you for making us feel loved with all of the donations as well. Because of all of you amazing women, I was able to turn my life completely around and for that I am forever grateful. Thank you. H.H.
