Mrs. Sagat Says...

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

We hope you have been having a great summer! There's still lots of time left to enjoy the sunnier, longer days and time with your families. Thanks to everyone who came out to walk with St. Alphonsus for the 4th of July Parade here in Greendale! Our float was amazing!

We have been hard at work all summer getting ready for the new school year, so we wanted to send you this quick newsletter with some updates & tips for when it's time for you to get ready for back to school. Please also make plans to stop by the Greendale Farmers Market on Saturday, August 15 as St. Alphonsus School will once again have a booth! We also had a booth in July and it was great fun to be out in the community talking about our school.

Some quick updates from me:

Our enrollment for the upcoming school year is currently at 157 students, with the growth mostly in our Early Childhood wing and inquiries still coming in! As such, we have made the decision to expand the 3K part time classroom to 12 students with a teacher & aide, so we are currently hiring for a part time MWF aide if you know of anyone who is interested! That wing has also received some updates this summer, including new flooring and paint. We are excited to have a busy early childhood wing and several new families joining our school! We are also excited to welcome the new teachers to our Early Childhood staff this fall! Please check out their bios below.

Our school office hours in August will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am to 1pm. Regular daytime office hours resume with the first day of school, Tuesday, September 1, when the office is open from 7:15am to 3:15pm. Please note that for next week, July 27 through July 31, the school office will be CLOSED as the first floor is being waxed.

We are also excited to announce that we are again welcoming parent volunteers to assist with lunch and recess duties this year! This is an easy daytime commitment of about an hour, and we would love to be flexible to your schedule! We are splitting our recesses this year, with our early childhood recess from 11:00am to 11:30am with lunch immediately following. Lunch and recess for the remainder of the school runs from about 11:40am to 12:30pm. We do assign lunch & recess monitors to the same day each week, so please note: this is a weekly commitment of about an hour or so on the same day every week. Life happens though, so subs are available for a day you might not be able to make it. If you are interested in serving as a Lunch/Recess Monitor, please email Mrs. Sagat directly with your name, contact information and availability. All volunteers must be safeguarded--you can find more information about Safeguarding below.

Tuition Contracts were physically mailed out on Friday, July 10 to all families. If you have not received yours or have any questions, please email Mrs. Andresen in the School Office and she will be happy to assist you. As a reminder, we would like the contracts back in the School Office by August 1. PowerSchool Credentials for new families and information regarding required back to school forms will be sent by August 7th. Tuition payments will also be entered into PowerSchool by that time so that all families can log-in and set up your lunch accounts and make any online tuition payments before the August 15th deadline. Again, for any questions, please contact Mrs. Andresen, and remember that tuition can always be paid by cash or check by dropping by the school office.

Meet & Greet Night will take place on Thursday, August 27 from 3-5pm. Park in the main church parking lot and enter through the church doors, because the first stop is the Community Room! Here you will take your student's school picture, pick up necessary forms & information, and be able to buy out-of-uniform passes, shop the uniform closet sale, and more! After that, you can head to your child's classroom to drop off supplies and meet the teacher. We look forward to seeing you all there!

We will start to email you more information for the new school year in the early parts of August, but be sure to check out important information about things like unity shirts, school uniforms & school supplies below!

In addition, Mrs. Schermetzler asked me to remind you to always check out our website for the most up-to-date information during the summer. The "Parents" tab will have the most valuable information for you, but you can also always check our newsletter archive too.

Have a great rest of your summer and we will be back in your inboxes in August!

Best regards,

Mrs. Sagat, Principal

Welcome New Staff Members!

Welcome to Our New Staff!

As we expand our early childhood wing, we are blessed to welcome the following new staff members:

Amber Ryder, 3K Teacher
Full Time Classroom

I am so excited to be joining St. Alphonsus as the new 3K teacher! I have my bachelors degree in early childhood education, and have had lots of experience working with children from ages Birth to 10 years old. My favorite part about working with children is being able to see them as they learn, excel, and improve on what they are being taught. A fun fact about me is that I am a big Disney fan, I love watching new and old Disney movies with my friends and family!

Fatima Castro Beach, 3K Teacher
Part Time Classroom

It is truly a blessing to become a part of this wonderful school, and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone. I am originally from Peru and have been working in early childhood education for the last 4 years while I pursue my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Studies. My family and I recently moved to Franklin and my husband & I have four children who will also be attending St. Alphonsus! I enjoy puzzles & crafts, board games, animals, and baking & cooking with my family.

Retha Hess, 3K Full Time Aide

I am a wife and mother of three children, ages 12, 13, and 14. I have been blessed to work with children of many different age groups as a kindergarten teacher's assistant, as well as a track and volleyball coach. These experiences have strengthened my passion for helping children learn, grow, and thrive. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, crafting, writing and illustrating children's books, and volunteering at my home parish. I love using my creativity to encourage and inspire others. I am thrilled to be joining the St. Alphonsus community and look forward to meeting many of the students, families, and parishioners. I feel truly blessed to become part of this wonderful school community and can't wait to get to know everyone.

Dress Code/School Store Information

Dress Code: School Store Opening Soon!

Our school store will be opening back up soon with some new products and old favorites as we get ready for the upcoming school year. As a reminder, here are the items that must be ordered from our school store:

  • First, we will again be wearing embroidered sky blue polos for school Mass this year. ALL students in Grades 5K-8 must purchase a Mass polo. You have a couple of different sizing options, but the Mass polo MUST be the sky blue color with St. Alphonsus embroidery and will be worn every Wednesday. Mass polos are not eligible to be personally embroidered with student names. Mass polos are optional for students in 3K & 4K.

  • Second, for Grades 5-8, a gym uniform is also required. Only one gym uniform purchase is required, but students will be required to wear the uniform each time they have gym. You may purchase as many as you'd like for your student to be able to wear the uniform to gym class each time they have it. In addition, the store also offers a cute drawstring bag which many of our students like to use to carry their gym uniforms!

You will find both of these required uniform pieces in the Required section of the school store.

Anything you order from the store before August 15 will be available for you to pickup at our Meet & Greet Night on August 27, barring any back orders from the store.

Please note that the rest of our dress code is NOT changing. You can continue to order khakis & pants, shirts, etc. in our regular colors. We will have an updated Family Handbook for all families in August, but you can see more about our dress code on our website here!

Mrs. Schermetzler will send an email notification to all families when the school store has re-opened (we are waiting on our vendor), but you can also check to see if it's opened by clicking here.

Order Your Student's Unity Shirt!

School will provide ONE unity shirt per student, in all grades: 3K through 8th.

Extra unity shirts and unity shirts for family members who are not students can be ordered online via our school store. Please do not use this form to order shirts for yourself or other family members.

This year's unity shirt will be light blue and we will wear them every Monday!

Please click this link to give us your child's size for Unity Shirts. Unity shirt sizes must be entered by August 7 so that we may place the bulk order in time for Meet & Greet.

Time to Think About Safeguarding!

If you are new to Catholic Schools or St. Alphonsus: You are REQUIRED to be safeguarded if you would like to volunteer for St. Alphonsus School events or in your child's classrooms, AND if you would like to attend field trips as a chaperones. There are NO exceptions to this rule, so get your Safeguarding requirements done now! This includes grandparents and any other family members who may want to volunteer or help at school, as well.

In addition, as a reminder, all families who want to host a trunk at our annual Trunk or Treat in October are required to be safeguarded. Adults cannot host a trunk if they are not Safeguard-certified, so take care of it now so you are not disappointed!

St. Alphonsus is offering THREE August & September Safeguarding sessions. They will be here at St. Alphonsus in the Community Room on the following dates:

August 12 at 6:00pm with Karen Farrell

August 26 at 6:00pm with Karen Farrell

August 9 at 5:30pm with Rachel Kroes

To register or learn more about the Archdiocese Safeguarding Program, please visit their website here. Registration is available on the left hand side of the page, and instructions are attached here. You can also reach out to Christine Gozdowiak in the parish office for any questions or assistance needed with registering.

St. Alphonsus had a fantastic time at the Milwaukee Milkmen Game! It was great to see everyone and raise a little money for our school through the 50/50 raffle and ball toss.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and helpers who made this night such a success, including Home & School President Tricia Williams and our other amazing volunteers who ran the 50/50 raffle and helped out with the event. Father Kevin was also there to throw out a beautiful first pitch!
