June, 2014
President's Message

Sharon Mitchell

As June arrives, many of our thoughts turn to celebrations and new beginnings.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to all our members celebrating a graduation this season.  We have many Impact 100 members, daughters, sons and relatives who are graduating and moving on to new challenges and opportunities.

Last month was packed with a variety of opportunities for members to network and socialize with each other, and to enjoy time with other members.  After cooking together in April, May brought the opportunity to hear from our former grant recipient Dress for Success while enjoying tea and scones at the Princess Diana exhibit.  We ended the month of May with Impact 100 members walking together in the FreeStore Foodbank Hunger Walk.

Our Grant Review Process is proceeding smoothly.  Each of the five Focus Area Teams has narrowed the field to just a few agencies for site visits.  Site visits are well underway, and the Committees are now engaging in the very difficult work of selecting just one Finalist per Focus Area.  We are on track for our Meet the Finalist Event on June 24th and the Annual Awards Celebration on September 16th.  Please SAVE THESE DATES.

That brings us to our final topic - our request that you help support the sustainability, viability and growth of the Impact 100 organization.  Our Board has already begun the Recruiting Season for 2015 Membership and we REALLY need your help.  Please invite a friend to join.  Bring a friend and prospect to an Impact Event.  The "Meet the Finalist" Event (6/24) and the Annual Awards Celebration (9/16) are two wonderful opportunities to introduce a friend to Impact 100.  Invite them today and get your invitation on their calendars!

With your help we will make our recruiting theme "Impact more with FOUR" a reality!

Have a great summer - filled with relaxing times, safe travels and exciting adventures!

I hope to see you on June 24th - when we meet our 2014 Grant Finalists.  Remember - this year we will be able to award grants to three finalists!

Warm Regards,

Sharon Mitchell

"Touch of Mercy" Award - presented to Impact 100
Impact 100 was the proud "Touch of Mercy" award winner, at the Mercy Neighborhood Ministries Third Annual Donor Recognition and Reception event, held on May 6, 2014. The event was held downtown at the beautiful US Bank - Ascent Private Capital Management offices. Sharon Mitchell and Sally Nugent accepted the award on behalf of Impact 100.  Mercy Neighborhood Ministries was one of our 2012 Impact 100 Grant Award
Recipients ($107,500). Our grant allowed Mercy Neighborhood Ministries to expand the Health Care Aide Training program in 2013. Wilma Buck shared her story with the group. She is a 2013 graduate of the Home Care Aide training program, is actively working in her new field, and loves taking care of her patients!

Who I am?

I am a mother of 3 boys, one of my own and 2 step sons, Bradley 26, Johnny 21, and Macallan 12. I am so proud of each of them and I love and hate how quickly they grow and mature. I'm coming up on my 14th anniversary with my husband Brad. He has been a constant presence of support and continually allowed me to push myself to grow. I work at the Zoo and have now for about 6 years. I love my role, the people I work with, and the passion that the Zoo gets to share throughout our community. I've been really lucky to get the opportunity to travel and see much of the world but there is definitely a bucket list of places I still need to see and experience. Hiking the Teton Crest Trail is hopefully coming up this July!

Quirky fact: I'm pretty certain my fast paced walk is quicker than my jogging pace. Sad but true!
Dream Job: Travel writer/photographer - but I'm horrible at writing and I'm pretty certain my pictures are only great in my eyes.
Dream Travel Destination: Seychelles

What got you involved in Impact 100?

The two things really excited me about becoming a member are a shared experience with my mother and doing something great with other women.

What keeps you a member?

The two things that keep me a member are the shared experience with my mother and the process of Impact.  I really enjoyed working on the Health and Wellness Committee last year - shout out to Marilyn who was a fantastic lead.  I love the depth that Impact provides for those interested.  It not only engages a member in the process but also provides you with a better working knowledge of all that we have going on in our community.

Did you catch Impact 100 in the news?
Troy Moon, Pensacola (Fla.) News Journal:
Women's philanthropy leaves an IMPACT
The national nonprofit group, founded in 2001, networks to raise cash for community needs.

The women of Pensacola have had an impact on their city that is hard to ignore. They've purchased vans for programs that transport the elderly. They've helped build exam rooms in a small medical center that treats poor and uninsured people. They funded a horse riding arena for an equine therapy program for children with developmental disabilities. They've funded the arts, the schools, historic cemeteries and homes for abused and neglected children.

And all with a $1,000 check. OK, a bunch of $1,000 checks. But that's the power of IMPACT 100, a loosely-knit, female-only philanthropic movement, where thousands of women writing $1,000 checks adds up to millions for communities across the country.
