RECOVERY-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

In our recent podcast, Establishing West Hartford as a Recovery Friendly Community, Gretchen Levitz, West Hartford Prevention Coordinator, discussed what it means to be a Recovery-Friendly community and the meaningful steps West Hartford has taken to address substance use and mental health.

Giving some background on West Hartford being an officially recognized Recovery-Friendly Community, Gretchen shared how raising awareness of substance misuse and mental health disorders, promoting health and recovery by reducing the stigma, and the impact that living in a Recovery-Friendly Community can have on improving the environmental factors necessary for recovery.

Visit the Recovery Friendly Community webpage for more information.

Podcast produced by Maeve D'Arcy, Prevention Assistant, West Hartford Prevention Partnership, and West Hartford Community Interactive.

LAURA STACK'S VISIT TO WEST HARTFORD

Education is the most powerful tool for both parents and students to prevent negative life outcomes and tragedies from high potency THC products, and the West Hartford community was fortunate to hear directly from Laura Stack, a renowned speaker on the topic. She spoke at a special event for parents, educators and community members at Bristow Middle School on May 11 and then on May 12, visited all three middle schools to talk to students.

Laura is Johnny Stack’s mom and the Founder and CEO of Johnny’s Ambassadors Youth THC Prevention, and by sharing her personal story, Laura is determined to start a movement to bring teen marijuana use, mental illness, and suicide into the spotlight. Laura’s impactful presentations, organized by the West Hartford Prevention Partnership, with the support of West Hartford Public Schools, was brought to the West Hartford community by a generous donation from a West Hartford parent who experienced the devastating consequences of high potency cannabis.

Visit the Prevention Partnership Webpage for more information on a variety of topics and resources.
