Dear St. Alphonsus Families,
Well, here we are! We made it! Welcome to the last (short!) week of school. It has been such a pleasure working with your students all year, and we are so excited to see most of you back in the fall.
The Leadership Team would like to extend our congratulations once again to the 8th Grade Graduating Class of 2024. We had a lovely mass & ceremony on Saturday to send them off. We are so proud of you all and know you will do great things!
Some minor housekeeping this week:
First, the school office will close for the summer on June 14. Any outstanding tuition payments need to be made by then. The office will reopen for the fall on August 12.
Second, our emails have changed! Well, just slightly. ALL staff emails going forward will now be first initial last name @st-alphonsus.org. So, for example, Ms. Parey's email is no longer taimi@st-alphonsus.org; it is tparey@st-alphonsus.org. Not to worry if you forget this, however--our old emails are still forwarding to our inboxes, but this is the email nomenclature we will use going forward.
In addition to those details, we wanted to give you a quick update on the hiring process for the positions we have open. We have extended an offer for both a 5th grade teacher and an ELA teacher, and we continue to field & interview candidates for our other open positions. If you know of someone who would be a great early childhood educator, please send them our way! Direct links to the job postings on the Arch website can be found on our website here.
How will we stay up to date with you this summer? In a couple of ways! We will have a mid-summer newsletter in July. In addition, stay tuned to our social media channels like Facebook and Instagram. We will start to email you information for the new school year in the beginning of August. This includes things like Cougar Club Calendars, enrollment paperwork, etc.
There is still a lot of information in this newsletter for these last few days, particularly for our Cougar Outdoor Extravaganza tomorrow. Please read these details thoroughly as there is specific information for volunteers as well as important details about carline. Also, don't forget that Wednesday is our last day of school and it is 10:0am dismissal!
Again, it has been such a pleasure leading this school this year. We hope you all have wonderful, relaxing, & stress-free summers! See you in the fall!
Best regards,
Ms. Parey, Principal
Mrs. Schermetzler & Mrs. Bruhn, Leadership Team

Return Your Library Books Right Meow!
Pete the Cat is still missing some library books in the school library! Check under those beds, dressers, and in messy closets, playrooms and backpacks for your students' library books. All books need to be returned by TOMORROW.
Printed notices went home this week, and another sent went home today, so please look for those in backpack mail.
If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. Schermetzler. Sometimes books are returned or get misfiled, so I am here to help if you think a book was already returned!

Over the summer, Ms. Webber will be offering private guitar and ukulele lessons at school. Lessons are available for students going into 2nd grade and older. Students must be able to provide their own instruments.
The cost is $20 for a 30 minute lesson, and right now Ms. Webber plans to teach on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays. If you are interested, please send her an email with your child's availability on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Cougar Outdoor Extravaganza is TOMORROW!
This is a fun-filled day of activities for students and staff! Here are some important reminders for you to note:
ATTIRE
All students should wear their UNITY shirts and athletic bottoms (joggers, shorts, etc) for this event. In addition, please have students wear sneakers or tennis shoes. We will do water balloons this year as well so it is recommended to send a change of clothes and a towel for the end of the day!
SUNSCREEN
We will be outdoors for much of the morning, so please apply sunscreen on your kiddos this day! School staff cannot apply it for them, so if you are sending extra for your students to reload, please teach them how to put it on.
AFTERNOON CAR LINE
We will be utilizing the main parking lot all day. In the afternoon, we will be doing water balloons with everyone. The main gates for the afternoon carline will be CLOSED until 2:30pm and the cones will be up. Please DO NOT come to carline any earlier than that. Students will be on the playground doing water balloons and we will open the gates when finished. Thank you for your patience and for keeping our students safe while we have some water fun!
LUNCH
No hot lunch or milk will be served on Tuesday. If you did not order your students a Cousins' Subs lunch, please remember to pack them a cold lunch & a beverage.
VOLUNTEERS
Check out our sign-up genius here, because we could still use just a couple of more volunteers! We are flexible on timing so come when you can! Check in at the office first and then talk to Mrs. Schermetzler about what to do for your station. All volunteers must be safeguarded.
Any questions, please contact Mr. Gutche or Mrs. Schermetzler.

The SCRIP Program is Not Going on Summer Vacation!
If you place an order for cards we have in stock (Kwik Trip, Woodman's, Sendiks or Pick n' Save, Culver's and Cousins), SCRIP Coordinator Vickie Major will deliver to the Parish Office for you to pick up if you don't want to wait for weekend pick-up at church. Don't let three months of earning tuition credit pass by!
Using SCRIP is really easy. Check out this testimonial from a school family:
Hello St. Alphonsus Family and Friends,
I would like to share how our family was easily able to raise hundreds of dollars for our school and for tuition reimbursement for our kids' education here at St. Alphonsus. Last fall at Back to School night, I heard the SCRIP presentation and thought that it seemed like a good idea to really delve into the program. So, I did! I downloaded the app, asked Vickie Major some questions, and off I went. Our experience has been really great. We use a combination of physical gift cards and e-gift cards. We started by using them for purchases at Pick 'N Save, Woodman's and Kwik Trip. Then I started paying attention to all the retailers that we could buy gift cards from and now whenever we have the opportunity to use one, we do! All our favorite retailers are available: Target, Walgreens, Home Depot, Starbucks, Children's Place, TJMaxx, Panera, Qdoba, etc. It's great when Kwik Trip runs bonuses of 7% on gas or 15% on groceries, or even better is the 19% bonus Bath and Body Works!
What I really love about the program is that the app is super convenient, and allows us to buy gift cards whenever we need them. We have access to them instantly and they are all in one place. There are hundreds of retailers for almost any spending category available. The very best thing about this Scrip opportunity is that it doesn't require us to buy anything we are not interested in. We literally have the freedom to spend our money on exactly what we want to. All of the purchases have added up and we are so happy to report that our family alone has raised more than $650. You can, too! Join us!

Battle of the Books List: Out Now! | |
Battle of the Books is a lively academic competition that improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, introduces students to new books & authors, and teaches teamwork, commitment, & sportsmanship.
The program culminates in a tournament in April with other area Catholic Schools.
How It Works
Teams of three students each from Grades 4, 5, and 6 read 45 pre-assigned books (15 books each) from October-March. Titles are from varying genres with a wide range of reading levels and subjects.
Teams will gather after school once or twice a month starting in the fall for practice battles and to determine St. Alphonsus School’s Tournament Champs (one team per grade level). The Tournament Champs will go to the program-wide tournament in April.
Next year, St. Alphonsus School is HOSTING the tournament, so it is a great time for your students to join!
The pre-approved list of Battle books for the 2024-2025 school year can now be released. You can find a copy of it here.
We will have more details about how to sign-up for the program in the fall.

Calling All Fun Run Sponsors!
Our only fall fundraiser—the Fun Run—will be back this October! In order to make this Fun Run the best one yet, we need your help getting T-shirt sponsors this summer. There are four levels of sponsorship: $100, $250, $500 and $750. All sponsors receive their logo on the official Fun Run T-shirt and recognition in the weekly school newsletter throughout the fall.
Sponsors can be the company you or a family member works for, or a local business that you frequent. Not sure about making the ask yourself? Send us your ideas and we’ll do the legwork!
Please contact Olivia Hartley with your donations and ideas, and thank you in advance for your support!

Calling all Room Parents!
First, we’d like to say THANK YOU to all the current room parents for volunteering their time this year to assist teachers and school with various events and activities throughout the year! We appreciate your time!
As this year comes to an end, now is the time to consider becoming a room parent for the 2024-2025 school year!
Room parents provide valuable assistance to our teachers by being the liaison between the teacher and classroom parents.
If you are interested in being a room parent, please email Dawn Eisold and include your name, email, phone number and your child’s name and grade for 2024-2025.
Room parents will be contacted in late August. Please remember that all room parents need to be safeguarded.
Please let us know if you have any questions and thanks for volunteering!

We ask mentor families to exchange contact information with new families so they can have someone to contact with questions, and all mentor & new families attend a social event to welcome them to the school in the fall. Your relationship with your mentor family can be as involved as you want it to be!

St. Al's Youth Ministry Sunday Scriptures
Want a good game of kickball? Want some ice cream?
Want to grow closer to Jesus while combining kickball and ice cream (well, not at the same time, that would be dangerous)?
St. Al's Youth Ministry is offering an opportunity for kids entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the fall to come play a game of kickball. Afterwards join us for some ice cream and brief reading of the Sunday Scriptures.
Want to know more? Fill out this google form and Miss Karen will be in touch with you!
We also do need some volunteers to help chaperone... so if you are interested in that, please check out the link or email Karen. Thank you!
