TJ Audio Production 2 students recently took a trip to the studios of KGNU Community Radio at the Rocky Mountain Public Media Center downtown.
On the visit students got to tour the facilities, learn about community radio and its importance to the Front Range community, and take part in a live DJing workshop presented by KGNU host, and local House and Eclectic DJ, Erin Stereo. It was a great day for all!

Thomas Jefferson High School's FIRST Robotics Competition team, 3648 Sparta Robotica, took 17 students to the FRC Utah Regional and recently got back. Let's hear how their trip went.
Leaving TJ Tuesday night with an armless robot, we worked tirelessly throughout Wednesday in the hotel lobby to get the arm attached and functioning, hoping to have it done before Thursday morning. Our robot was taken to the arena on Thursday morning and loaded into the pits. However, they would have to miss their first practice match. After rigorous testing, the team robot is ready and is taken to its second match. Working on troubleshooting and unearthing the robot's kinks to ensure it was prepared for the competition matches Friday.
On Friday, we were in the first match, in which we won 51 to 28. After winning that match, it set the mood and hopes for the day and the rest of the competition. We would continue pushing and striving to improve our robot and team. Ultimately coming home with a win/loss record of 7 to 5.
On Saturday, it was time for the finals. We were chosen as a 3rd pick alliance backup for the 5th alliance. If one of the three robots on alliance 5 didn't work, we would step in and work with that alliance to succeed. Sadly we were eliminated in the semifinals with a playoff record of 1 to 2. Ranked 18th out of 44 teams. A fantastic feat, speaking, that we went to Utah without a fully finished robot.
Ultimately, we left Utah a much better team than when we arrived. In addition, we learned what needs to be done to succeed at the Colorado Regional (March 22nd to 25th).

The annual Project Management (PMI) Project of the Year dinner was held last week. Project Managers Bob Kois and Chuck Knezevich have worked with TJ students for the last 22 years preparing them to present their project to the Mile Hi Chapter members. Over 100 members judge their projects based on their knowledge and integration of Project Management as they work on their project. They also make scholarships of $2000 available to students who apply and show potential. Close to 100 TJ students in CCT have been recipients of this scholarship over the years.
This year's winners for Project of Year are:
Pelle Krabbenhoeft
Samuel McPherson
William Franco
Project: First Robotic Competition Java Framework
Maleah McFee
Project: 3D Model Architecture Home
Congratulations to all participants and winners!

Spartan Staff Grants Request Window is Now Open!
TJ PTO's primary mission is to enhance and support the educational experience at TJHS. With that goal in mind, PTO has budgeted approximately $20,000 to distribute as Spartan Staff Grants! This is made possible by the fundraising done through the PTO's online auction. Your support of the auction directly benefits all TJ students.
Do you know a teacher or staff member who may have a need for grant money? It's time for any staff member to submit a request for a TJ Auction funded Spartan Staff Grant to help support students in whatever class or activity they lead. Last year, grants funded by the TJ Auction were used for equipment and supplies to support the departments of Special Ed, PE, JROTC, World Languages, Counseling, Art, and Math.
TJ Staff: Please submit Spartan Staff Grant requests using this template: PTO Grant Request (google.com)
All requests are due by the end of the day on Friday, March 31st.

Announcing the 7th Annual Thomas Jefferson High School Auction!
The 7th Annual TJ Online Auction will take place April 16-20, 2023!
The Auction is TJ's only school-wide fundraiser and proceeds from this year’s Auction will be dedicated to helping those in our TJ community and awarding classrooms grants:
| |
|
- Supporting our community members in need is a huge priority. Auction proceeds will be available to support our TJ community including, but not limited to, helping those experiencing food insecurity.
- Our Classroom Grant program supports our teachers in their work to deliver an exceptional educational experience for all TJ students.
In order to reach our goal to raise $22,000 this year, we need your help! It’s easy—when you are in a business (restaurant, salon, your favorite shops), ask them to support our auction this year in the form of a gift card or an item! Or reach out to family and friends who own businesses and ask for their support.
Anything works, and is appreciated!
| |
Print a few copies of the attached letter to have in your car to hand to businesses when you ask for a donation. The letter provides additional details about the event, delivery instructions as well as TJ's tax-id # as all donations are tax deductible.
You can also direct donors directly to our Auction management site to enter their business and donation information: https://tjauction23.bebids.me/
Thank you for your help - we need the whole TJ community to make this a successful fundraising event!

Work Based Learning Opportunities
|
Have you heard about the exciting work-based learning opportunities through apprenticeship offered in partnership with CareerWise Colorado? Apprenticeship provides additional avenues to college and career success while providing applied-learning environments with world-class businesses with paid positions in career pathways such as financial services, business operations and information technology.
Watch this video about why youth apprenticeship is an important innovation to our education system.
To be eligible for apprenticeship, students should be rising seniors on-track to graduate with enough credits to have flexibility in their schedules.
Check out these slides to see the current open positions. They will be updated as more become available. There will be a general information session for students to learn about the program and start applying on Wednesday, March 22 during lunch in Room 111. Students interested in positions with Pinnacol have the opportunity to visit the office on March 16th.
If your student is interested in exploring the possibilities apprenticeship can provide, they should speak with Emily_Bobrick@dpsk12.net in the counseling center-room 137F. Families are also encouraged to reach out to learn more about the program.
