Join us this Sunday be a part of and sing with
“The Leftovers”.
This is a wonderful opportunity for folks in the congregation who enjoy singing to come up to the front of the sanctuary and sing a song with the choir. We will meet in the choir room at 10:00 a.m. We have a song that you’ll enjoy and it’s not difficult. Youth and adults are welcome- we need your voices to sing out on this stirring song. Hope to see you on Easter morning! Thank you, Amy🎶

DECLUTTER ON EASTER MONDAY April 1, 9:30-11:30am
The trustees are working with the Community Unity Team to tidy and declutter the stage and the back room off the kitchen. Our trustees have already marked what items need to stay and what items can go. We will be sorting and taking things to the trash or to St Vincent DePaul. Many hands make light work. If you can help, please meet us at 9:30 a.m. the morning after Easter!

Dear Friends,
When this newsletter is sent on Thursday morning it will be in perfect timing to remind you about the worship service tonight and on Easter Sunday. This evening there we will gather for Maundy Thursday dinner served from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall followed by a Maundy Thursday worship service at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Childcare will be available during the service.
At this service we will celebrate Holy Communion, which was instituted at the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his death. Following Communion the story of Jesus’ passion will be shared in word from the Gospel of Mark and in art.
Then we will wait until Easter Sunday morning comes! And we can proclaim together, “Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen, indeed!” knowing that since the first Easter the world has never been the same. It will be a wonderful Sunday!
And for me, if I may share my personal perspective, it will be a poignant Sunday. While I may have the chance to preach again when other pastors are on vacation, most pastors don’t take Easter Sunday off. While we don’t know the future, this might very well be my last opportunity to share a message for Easter Sunday worship. While it makes me sad, it also reminds me of how very blessed I am and what a privilege it has been to share even one message on Easter Sunday, the high holy day of the Christian year. What an amazing gift of love, hope, and joy we have been given, not just to keep for ourselves, but to share with others! (With that thought I will remind you to invite your friends to Easter worship…and breakfast and the Easter Egg hunt, too!)
Please be in prayer for the worship services and those who worship this week—as we gather on Maundy Thursday, and are reminded of the depths of Jesus’ love for us that led him to the cross; and then come together on Easter Sunday, to celebrate that no matter how dark things were on Good Friday and how silent Jesus’ tomb was on Saturday, the resurrection happens on Sunday! Thanks be to God!
God’s grace and peace be with you.
Pastor Kim

The General Conference for the United Methodist Church will be held from April 23 through May 3, 2024. Our own Maplewood UMC member, Colette Cummings, is one of the General Conference delegates from Missouri! One very important issue that will be dealt with by the General Conference is regionalization legislation. United Methodist leaders are bringing legislative proposals before the General Conference to create new regional conferences that will each have equal power to pass legislation within their prospective regions. If you want to know more about General Conference and this important decision about regionalization, click on this link: 2024 General Conference
Please be in prayer for all of the general conference delegates who are traveling to Charlotte, (especially Colette!) and the work that they will do that shapes the ministry of the UMC for years to come. A special prayer guide is available at this link:
https://www.resourceumc.org/-/media/umc-media/2024/03/14/16/33/guidetoprayer_gc24_english-c.pdf The suggested date for beginning with this prayer guide is Sunday, April 7.

What to Expect in Worship During April | |
|
Sunday, April 7: Holy Humor Sunday. Early Greek Christians began the custom of holding "Bright Sunday" or "Holy Humor Sunday" celebrations on the Sunday after Easter. For centuries, in all Christian faith traditions, the week following Easter Sunday was observed by the faithful as "days of joy and laughter" with parties and picnics to celebrate Jesus' resurrection. Charlotte and Dave Phelps will lead worship. Rev. Steve Wall-Smith will preside over Holy Communion. Dress in your comfy, happy clothes. Hawaiian shirts would be just the thing to wear. Bring a friend, your sense of humor, and a joke to share for worship and then plan to stay for the Church and Community Potluck after worship.
Sunday, April 14: Pastor Kim will be back from time off with family and will lead worship. Kyle Kranes-Rutz will be with us this day to share the message!
Sunday, April 21: New Sermon Series begins. “Make Good Choices!” Those are the words that would follow our kids out the door during their teenage years. Actually, they are words that are good for all of us to hear in all stages of life, whether we are heading out the door or staying home! While we can’t know the future, the direction and quality of our lives are determined in large part by the decisions we make. During this sermon series, we will lean into scripture to find wisdom for making decisions and identify some good questions to ask that will guide is in making large, small or in-between-sized decisions.
