Mrs. Schermetzler Says...

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Last week was an exciting one as we had a student "Principal for the Day" on Friday! Miss Maddie in 7th Grade won this opportunity at the Cougar Carnival. She joined me for carline, the morning announcements, making my rounds visiting classrooms in the morning, and more! She also declared today an Out of Uniform Day for everyone; how nice of her. I think she had a good time and got a good idea of what the day to day job of the principal looks like!

Don't forget that the application deadlines for both the St. Gerard Scholarship and our internal financial aid are coming up soon. St. Gerard Scholarships are due in the school office by April 10, but because this is our Spring Break, we will extend the deadline so that they can be returned to school on Monday, April 13. The deadline for our internal financial aid application is Friday, April 17. You can find more details about both of these opportunities below, and we hope you apply!

The weather is warming up and that means playground season after school! Please read below for important safety reminders if you plan to take your student to the school playground after school. The most important reminder is about parking: please park down closer to the apartments when you come to the playground so that Cougar Club can set up their outdoor cones properly. Read more below!

This week is Living Stations of the Cross, a very moving Lenten devotion! You have two chances to see it: Tuesday, March 31 at 6:00pm in the church, and Wednesday, April 1 at 2:00pm in the church. Find more details below, and we hope you can join us.

Thank you for all your amazing donations over the past two weeks for the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry! Our 5K Daisy Troop will be hosting a hygiene drive to benefit the pantry after spring break. More details coming in the newsletter right after Spring Break.

If your family has been collecting change for the rice bowls, you may return them to school or church AFTER Easter/Spring Break. Sister Eileen will collect these. Thank you for your efforts!

Lastly, just another reminder from me about the Parish Auction! There is still time for you to donate an item, register to attend, or have your student volunteer. All the details are below and we hope to see you there!

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything: aschermetzler@st-alphonsus.org.

I hope you all have a great, short week this week, a blessed Easter, and a very restful Spring Break.

Other Important Reminders

Playground Safety Reminders for After School

As the weather gets nicer (hopefully!), we always enjoy seeing families playing at the school playground after school! This is a great way for parents to socialize and kids to get more energy out before heading home for the day.

We have two safety reminders for you as we head into Playground Season:

1) NEW THIS YEAR: If you plan to visit the school playground after school, please park at the back of the playground towards the apartments. Do not park close to the playground, gates, or in the middle of the lot. This will allow our Cougar Club Staff to be able to come out and set up their cones without needing to wait for cars to move, so that the Cougar Club kiddos can get some outside time too.

2) If you plan to stay at the playground after our Cougar Club staff and students have arrived, please note that YOU as the parent are responsible for your child's safety and behavior on the playground. Cougar Club staff are there to watch students attending our after school program. If your child is not attending Cougar Club, please be sure you are addressing your own child's safety & behavior on the playground. Thank you for your cooperation on this!

Wisconsin DNR Visits Science Lab

Students in Grades 4-8 Had A Guest Speaker from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Last Week!

Students had the opportunity to learn about careers in conservation, and then had the chance to participate in different activities identifying animals. They looked at pelts, skulls, footprints or scat (not real scat, much to the disappointment of some students, haha).

Congrats to Our Band & Orchestra Students!

Congratulations to our Band & Orchestra Students who played in their big combined concert on Saturday!

Orchestra students played 6 short pieces and one long-form piece called Storm. Band students played 4 different arrangements.

All who participated did a great job representing St. Alphonsus! Congratulations to everyone!

Donate an Item, Purchase an Ad for Your Business, and Make Plans to Join Us at This Year's Parish Auction!

Join us for a super fun night out on Friday, April 24 right here at St. Alphonsus! Every year we have more and more St. Alphonsus school parents attending and it's always an awesome time. We are still looking for donations as well as sponsorship and ad buys. Visit the parish auction web page for more details.

In Addition, Student Volunteers Are Also Needed!

This is a great way for kids to perform some community service, saves St. Al's the money we'd otherwise have to pay for adult waitstaff, and is a lot of fun!

Students should arrive at 4:30pm and will be done between 9:30pm and 10:00pm. Students will assist with table and other set up. They will serve appetizers to guests during cocktail hour. After that, they will work in the dining area, clearing salad plates, serving entrees, bringing coffee carafes to the tables and clearing plates, glasses, silverware, etc. at the end of the meal.

We will feed students dinner shortly after arrival. Students should wear a plain, white shirt or blouse and black pants or skirt with comfortable, closed toe shoes.

Students in grades 4-8 are eligible to serve. High schoolers are also welcome. Sign up here!
