Hi. Dave Brock here. As you know our state party Chair, Liz Walters, is stepping down. And yes, I have had people from all over the state reach out to me. The fact that a Chair from our county is being mentioned as a possible ODP Chair is a testament to all the work and activism in our county that we have done TOGETHER. From the record setting, massive number of signatures our county party collected for reproductive freedom in 2023 to the new Code of Conduct that is now in place.

Next year will be 20 years since we last elected a Democratic governor in Ohio. In our state, we must do things differently to win Democratic governing power. We must think boldly to build a base with new voters and non voters. Find them through canvassing, texting, algorithms, but most importantly by plain listening to voters about what matters to them. And this needs to be done by better, more concise, more understandable, and more universal messaging.

Republicans are trying to keep us down, giving more of our tax money to the super rich and to do that they need to cut benefits to people who live in cities, suburbs, and rural areas alike. Democrats must fight like hell not just in opposing the Republican onslaught at the federal and state level but for our agenda that wins better health care, a safe retirement, and a better life for all of us.

And we in this county can have a say in that. 12 years ago when I made the decision to move back to Cleveland and leave behind the world of academia, I did so because I wanted to make some impact on improving circumstances in Cuyahoga County and Cleveland, the city where I was born. In the midst of all that we face, I’m optimistic about what we can build together. I plan to remain the Chair of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. There’s still much unfinished business, so I hope you’ll join with me in helping elect Democrats and making this a party voters can be proud to support. Democrats must be united!

In 2023 Cleveland City Council allocated $1.9 million in revenue recovery funds to help eliminate medical debt resulting in one of the city’s most impactful public support programs. To date the fund has eliminated $165 million in debt.

Last month Cleveland City Council passed an ordinance requiring Cleveland businesses with more than 15 employees to post salary range/scale on all job listings and to stop businesses from requiring previous salary information from hiring candidates.

The Proposed Ohio House of Representatives Budget Threatens the Funding of Public Libraries - The Ohio House of Representative’s proposed budget will dismantle the Public Library Fund – replacing it with an unstable funding structure that could severely impact the ability of public libraries in Cuyahoga County to offer programming, resources, services and spaces – just as the demand for these services is growing.

The proposed budget reduces funding for the libraries in Cuyahoga County by nearly 25%. - Ask Ohio House of Representatives to restore the Public Library Fund.
