PTO Awards $16,250 in Spartan Grants to the School

The TJ PTO’s primary mission is to enhance and support the educational experience for

students and staff. Last month, the PTO awarded 17 grants, totaling over $16,258 through our

Spartan Grants program. This included funding for student activities and competitions

(including Speech & Debate and Club 5280), classroom support (Math, Science, English,

Visual Arts, World Languages, English, Exceptional Student Services, Special Education) and

our Student Support Team. We are proud to be able to support the school and thank you for

your contributions and donations to the TJ Auction, which was held from 2017-23 and provided

over $100,000 in funding for the grant program for the past 8 years. While our fundraising will

look different next year, we will still be raising money to support the TJ Spartan Grants. Stay

tuned - we will need your support!

Mental Health and Social/Emotional Tips

Did You Know...?

(en español)

 Your attention span is shrinking!

BUT there are a few easy things you can do to stay focused.

The end of another school year brings a flux of changes, transitions and the need for a new routine for many. We may feel like our attention and energy is being pulled in too many different directions. Here are some quick and easy ways to take control:

Distracted by social media apps and notifications?

  • Hide them! Take the icons off your desktop and bury the apps on your phone inside folders, where it takes an extra effort to find them. Leave your phone in another room, or put it in a drawer and lock it.

Build time breaks into your day!

  • Take a walk outside (without!) your smart watch or phone.
  • Cook a meal without using technology (have a printed recipe ready)
  • Sit on your sofa and mediate, or deep breathe, or just listen to sounds in the environment without having your eyes and brain engaged in technology

Know when to take a break.

  • If you have to read something more than once or if the words are just not registering, it’s time to stop and replenish

Understanding additional distractions.

  • Mute your group chats
  • Set your “Do Not Disturb” notification on to alleviate any pressure to respond quickly

Read material that is not on a screen.

  • Reading on your phone or laptops can make you more prone to scrolling and scanning over whatever you are reading. Reading something on paper can help with increasing attention and focus.
