Dear St. Alphonsus Families,
Happy first week of May, or, as the kids in the know today say: May the Fourth Be With You! We had a little fun on the morning announcements today, playing the Star Wars theme for May the 4th. I saw some Princess Leia-inspired hair for our Early Childhood ABC Countdown Crazy Hair Day today too!
Staff Appreciation Week is upon us! All of the teachers and staff at St. Alphonsus work hard everyday caring for the educational and spiritual needs of our students and this week we celebrate their dedication. Thank you to Home & School for decorating, organizing fun events, and stocking the lounge. Many parents took time out of their busy schedule to make this week a special time for our teachers & staff, and for that I am extremely grateful!
As I mentioned last week, next week Wednesday, May 13 will be our State of the School Presentation at 6:30pm in the Community Room. This is the annual Call for Questions! If you have specific questions you would like me to answer or topics you would like me to hit on at State of the School, please email them to me directly: msagat@st-alphonsus.org. Thank you and I am looking forward to seeing you there!
A few other reminders this week:
-
This is the last full week for the 5K Daisies Hygiene Drive! The class who returns the most items by Tuesday, May 12th will get a pizza party, so please continue to donate!
-
This is also the last week for Mr. Gutche's Kids Heart Challenge. Find all the details below and thank you for helping us teach about being heart healthy!
-
Friday, May 8 will be an out-of-uniform day for students and staff to celebrate Staff Appreciation Week. Home & School has asked everyone to gear up and wear clothing that represents your favorite sports team, so get those jerseys and sportswear out!
-
Our last round of STAR testing for the year begins this week. Please have students get a good night's rest and eat a good breakfast each day.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Sagat Principal

Applications for this program re-opened on May 1 and will close again on May 20. We encourage those families who are interested to apply early. Smart Watch Reminder
We've noticed an uptick in students wearing smart watches to school this spring! Please remember that per our technology code in the Family Handbook, Apple Watches and any other smart watches that can interface with a cell phone OR that are not a regular analog or digital watch will need to be turned in each morning just as phones are collected and held. This includes watches like VTech on which games can be played.
We recommend leaving your students' smart watches at home! Students wearing smart watches who do NOT turn them in to their teachers at the start of the morning will have them confiscated until the end of the school day. Thank you for your cooperation with this policy!

Uniform Skirts & Shorts Reminder
We know that spring is often a time of new growth--for nature and for students! However, please remember that skirts & shorts need to follow our length guidelines in the Family Handbook. We have noticed quite a few skirts and shorts that are not following our guidelines since students can start wearing them without tights again, so we wanted to remind you what the handbook says. All skirts, skorts, & shorts:
- Must be worn at waist level at all times.
- Must go past the fingertips when hands are at the student’s side.
- Must be same length all around (front and back)
- Must be chino or dress shorts or skorts without pockets on legs.
- No cargo style shorts or skorts.
Don't forget that we do have a large uniform closet of gently used uniform items for $1 a piece if your students are growing out of their skirts & shorts. Stop in the office anytime to be let in--cash only.

Have Your Child Be an Altar Server at Sunday Masses!
Your children who are CURRENTLY in grades 3 & up are invited to learn how to become an altar server to assist at our Sunday Masses. Being an altar server is a tremendous opportunity for your child to take on the responsibility of helping to lead our worship. While serving in this role, he or she can learn more about the Mass and experience the Lord through the Eucharist in a new way.
This opportunity is open to students who will be in 4th grade and up for the 2026-2027 school year. Here is a permission slip to be filled out and returned via backpack mail by Friday, May 8. In addition, a paper copy was sent home with those grades last week.
If your child is already an altar server they do not need to sign up again. This training is for new altar servers only.
