Nominate an FAES Faculty Member for Excellence in Teaching


FAES Academic Programs invites all students who have taken a course with FAES in the 2021-2022 academic year to nominate a faculty member to be recognized for excellence in teaching. Please complete the following survey by June 10. If you would like to nominate multiple instructors, please submit a separate form for each faculty member. To nominate a faculty member, please follow the link:


FAES 'Excellence in Teaching' Award 2021-2022


Criteria for excellence in teaching include instruction that:

  • Supports student learning by providing multiple opportunities for practice (i.e. practice quizzes)
  • Supports student learning by providing multiple paths to success (i.e. choice of final project topic)
  • Encourages student engagement by reminding students about how and when to participate (i.e. weekly announcements.)
  • Provides opportunities to receive individualized help (i.e. office hours, timely responses to questions)
  • Provides individualized feedback that helps students achieve success (i.e. feedback on specific assignments in Canvas.)
  • Assesses work based on clear expectations (i.e. uses rubric criteria to assess assignments)
  • Connects course material to real-world examples
  • Guides students through learning materials (i.e. asks guiding questions, highlights main points of readings or videos)

Data Science All Around Us: An Overview of Next Generation Sequencing

In this seminar on Wednesday, May 18 from 12-1pm EDT, Dr. Chang will introduce you to the wide world of topics and techniques covered by the broad term “next generation sequencing”. In particular, she hopes to demonstrate the relevance of sequencing techniques to a broad range of scientists, both in terms of societal relevance (think Covid-19 genomics and CRISPR) and potential relevance to your own research, even if it doesn’t currently involve sequencing.
