Administrator's Corner
November 14, 2022
Good morning, Spartans!
Please note that there is a district sponsored Fentanyl Awareness Night for families tomorrow night at East High School. See below for more information about this important event.
It's hard to believe that it's the last week of classes before break! When we return from break on Monday, 11/28, it is crunch time! There will be only two weeks of classes left in the semester before Finals week (click here for the schedule). Please be sure that students are getting to class on time and maximizing these remaining days in the semester to end on a strong note in all of their classes.
As we head into the holidays, there are some important opportunities to come together to help Spartan families in need. Please see the links below if you need holiday help or if you are able to provide holiday help to others. Let's continue to take care of each other and make this the best village we can be.

Congrats to two stellar TJ senior athletes who committed to playing at the next level! Brooke Murrell signed to play basketball at the University of Hawaii, and Laila Hilton signed to play volleyball at Fort Valley State University. We are so proud of these two!
Accuplacer Testing for Juniors
Junior families,
This Tuesday and Wednesday all juniors will take the College Board Accuplacer test. This test is one way a student can show college readiness, a now required measure for graduation by both DPS and the State of Colorado. The students will take two tests, one for English and one for Math.
The test will begin at 7:30 a.m. both days. Students will be excused from periods 1-4.
Students with last names A-L will take the test on Tuesday.
Students with last names M-Z will take the test on Wednesday.
Testing locations will be posted in the main hall.
Again, this test is an important opportunity for students to show college readiness and meet a graduation requirement.
Thanks!

Holiday Gift Assistance for Families
Holiday Helpers for Adopt-A-Family Tradition
I am reaching out with our annual adopt-a-family program. If you would like to be a Holiday Helper this is the ask:
The Ask: We are asking, those who are interested, to sign up for a family (or two). No pressure but appreciate the support.
The Financial Obligation: We are capping the gift wish list to one gift at $30 max and a clothing item for each child under the age of 18 in the household. This also does not need to be all from you. I personally adopted five families last year, created a sign up, and sent it out to my network of families and friends. Within minutes, the list was filled.
The Time Restraints: I will send you the wish list for your family. No need to wrap the gifts as DECA will be graciously supplying all the paper, tape, and tags so the parents can have the luxury of wrapping their children's gifts.
The Deadline: I will need the family's gifts in a box that is labeled with the number assigned to the family on December 13th, no sooner, no later. I will also send you reminders to those who need it ; ) Families are picking up on the 14th.
PLEASE USE THIS LINK TO SIGN UP TO BE A HOLIDAY HELPER:

Youth Apprenticeship Hiring Hub Now Open!
You may have heard about the exciting work-based learning opportunities through apprenticeship offered in partnership with CareerWise Colorado. Apprenticeship provides additional avenues to college and career
success while proving applied-learning environments with world-class businesses with positions in career pathways such as financial services, business operations and information technology.
Watch this short film about why youth apprenticeship is an important innovation to our education system. (3 min watch)
To be eligible for apprenticeship, students need only be on-track to graduate. If your student is interested in exploring the possibilities apprenticeship can provide, they should speak with Emiy Bobrick (emily_bobrick@dpsk12.net or in room 137F in the counseling center) or talk to their guidance counselor.
The Fall Hiring Hub is targeting seniors, but there will be many more jobs available for rising juniors and seniors in the spring. Click here to learn more and see all of the current available positions.

Parent Judges Needed for Business Competition 12/1
Five hundred high school students are ready to engage in a DECA Regional Competition next
month and we need 25-30 more parents or professionals to volunteer as judges for these
business simulation events. Past parent participants have found this to be a rewarding way to
spend a day supporting our students. Your student does not need to be in DECA for you to
serve as a judge. Parents of current DECA members are eligible to judge but cannot judge the
category that their student is competing in.
Thursday December 1, 2022 from 7:30AM to 3:30PM
Arapahoe County Fairgrounds & Event Center
25690 E Quincy Ave, Aurora, CO
Each judge will interact individually with 10-16 competitors. Judges will be provided with a copy
of the challenge, scripted questions and a detailed, task-specific score sheet. Scoring is done
online, so please bring your own device (laptop or tablet), or let us know if you will need one. A
concise training will be provided for judges prior to the competition.
You may choose your preferred event upon arrival. Topics include: Business Management &
Administration, Hospitality & Tourism, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Sales, Finance. A complete
list is found online here.
Help shape Colorado’s future business leaders – Sign up here to be a DECA judge on
December 1.
