Chair's Corner

Thanks to Republicans, so far in 2025, 1.1 million Americans have been laid off from work. That’s the most since early 2020 when Trump couldn’t handle the pandemic. Also, foreclosures are up too. But, thanks to Republicans, corporate profits are going up. And as has been the case under all Republican presidents for the past century: income inequality is increasing as the rich get richer and the middle class get less middle.

Democrats need to act bold to give the middle class more money directly or through a number of other ways. We need to punish corporate gluttony, raise the minimum wage, pay for people’s childcare, and solve two problems with one solution: get rid of the power of greedy insurance companies by expanding health care for all of us.

We know Republicans aren’t going to do any of this. Even if they wanted to, they couldn’t because they’re too busy lying about how great the economy is. And shifty Donald Trump and his two-faced tariffs are the best proof of this. He changes his mind on these taxes almost every day. I suppose that’s what happens when you’re too focused on ballrooms and pedophiles.

Applications are still being accepted for LEAD Ohio’s 2026 Campaign Academy!

The LEAD Ohio Campaign Academy is Ohio’s premier training program for developing candidates, judicial candidates, campaign managers and staff. Heading into 2026, we have refreshed our curriculum to reflect current best practices, modern messaging trends, and the tactics that successful campaigns are using across the country. We have also expanded our judicial and campaign manager tracks to give participants more focused instruction and applied training.

The Academy is free to participants (we only ask for a deposit from those accepted to hold their seat) and begins in early December. Sessions run on selected weekday evenings and Saturdays from December through April, totaling about 60 hours of instruction. Full class dates are listed in the application.

The deadline to apply is Friday, November
