2023 Winter Workforce Innovation Awards Nominations Open

The 2023 Winter Workforce Innovation Awards will be presented during the 2023 Winter Policy Forum in Washington, DC, February 15, 2023

 

States may apply for each award only once and a state agency administrator must approve each nomination. Five awards comprise the Winter Workforce Innovation Awards:

  • Merrill Baumgardner Innovation in Information Technology Award
  • Pinnacle Award for Business Development
  • Pinnacle Award for Workforce Development

STATE WORKFORCE LEADERS SHARE "EQUITABLE DATA" PRACTICES WITH FEDERAL WORKGROUP

Several state workforce and education leaders who help steer multistate data collaboratives recently co-signed a letter to the federal Equitable Data Working Group. Among the signatories were state workforce leaders Anna Hui, George Putnam, Coretta Pettway, and Jessica Cunningham. The Equitable Data Working Group requested information, through the Federal Register, on “how Federal agencies can better support collaboration with other levels of government, civil society, and the research community around the production and use of equitable data.” NASWA is the Administrative Organization supporting the emerging multistate data collaboratives, under a foundation grant. 

2022 FRAUD AWARENESS WEEK

A proud supporting organization of  International Fraud Awareness Week, NASWA will launch a dedicated webpage with numerous resources and videos for states and claimants, a “Fraud Facts Challenge”, and other collateral for states to use in their own Fraud Awareness campaigns.

NASWA VETERANS POLICY DIRECTOR TAKES PART IN SYMPOSIUM PANEL

NASWA Veterans Policy Director Lori Adams (pictured, left) was part of a panel discussing "Trends Related to Recruiting and Retaining Military Talent" at the 9th Annual Warrior Community Integration Symposium held October 4-6 in Atlanta, GA.

TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

NASWA’s Technology Committee releases its annual top priorities and initiatives of state workforce agency CIOs for 2022-2023. This document is a work product of the Committee that identifies the policy and technology issues facing State Workforce Agencies.

UI IT SUPPORT CENTER STEERING COMMITTEE

The UI ITSC Steering Committee held its first meeting of the new Association Year in Washington, D.C., October 27-28.


New Chair Neil Shah, CIO, Iowa Workforce Development and Vice Chair David Gerstenfeld, Director, Oregon Employment Department, kicked off the meeting reviewing the 2022 UI ITSC Annual Report which will be released soon. The Committee also discussed UI IT Modernization efforts throughout the nation and opportunities for UI ITSC to support states.


The Committee welcomed its newest member, Hunter Thompson, IT Director, Vermont Department of Labor. Mr. Thompson will fill one of the three IT Director positions on the committee.

VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Fifty-six people, including NASWA Veterans Affairs Committee members from 29 states, met in Phoenix, AZ October 12-13 for their first meeting of the new Association year.


In addition to updates from USDOL VETS Deputy Assistant Secretary Margarita Devlin, other members of VETS senior leadership, and NASWA CEO and President Scott B. Sanders, committee members heard about Arizona’s economic challenges and opportunities from DES Director Michael Wisehart. Arizona staff presented a spotlight on DES initiatives for Veterans in their state, and Scott Celley from Vet Tix shared information about how Veterans can receive donated tickets to sporting events, concerts and other types of entertainment. Committee members also discussed legislative priorities, and identified strategic areas of focus for the coming year.


The next meeting will be Dec. 7-8 in Nashville TN.

The Workforce IT Support Center Steering Committee met in Washington, DC October 19-20 and welcomed six new members:
