2022 Annual Meeting

Bridging the Gap in our Talent Pipeline

Business Plus held its Annual Meeting November 17th featuring keynote speaker Nathan Foss from Lightcast; the global leader in labor market analytics. Our goal was to round off this year's theme on the Talent Pipeline and share labor market data and strategies with our business and community leaders.

"Non-wage incentives have become more and more important with younger generations," Foss said. "When you are looking at labor force shortages the people being impacted by it are the businesses. They can't find the workers they need. Whether it's the low-skilled jobs or its the jobs for people with higher education — whatever it might be — there's a shortage all around, and so the businesses are the ones that are struggling."

The Times-News covered our event with its November 18, 2022 article Filling the talent pipeline: Business Plus annual meeting offers a look at labor data.

Southern Idaho Economic Development Organization, Inc. (SIEDO)

Interim Executive Director Jan Rogers shared news about the re-launch of SIEDO. The organization was founded 21 years ago on the concept of regional economic development. The idea was to leverage our resources as a region to market and attract large industrial/commercial projects. The intent from the beginning was for SIEDO to become a self-sustaining 501c organization focused on 4 basic tenets: 1) economic development being a team sport, 2) SIEDO's clients are the communities, counties, and private industry of Southern Idaho, 3) SIEDO must be client driven, and 4) it represents the economic interests of the region.

As Interim Director, Rogers was asked to assess the organization. The outcome of the assessment was to refocus the organization's original mission to create a stand-alone 501c3 organization. On October 1, 2022, SIEDO began the transition and has appointed a new board of directors representing Business Plus, CSI and the cities/counties. The next step will be to develop a strategic direction that will continue to drive opportunity to our region. Rogers believes our best years are yet to come!
