Get Ready for the Holidays
with These Chamber Events

The Downtown Business Committee is planning ways to draw in potential customers as a part of the City's Christmas in the Valley events. The dates are Thursdays from Dec. 4 to Dec. 18 -- plus Saturday, Dec. 13, the night of this year's Christmas parade of lights.

If you are interested in participating, please contact the Chamber office.

The events sponsored by the Chamber are:

  • Gnome Scavenger Hunt
  • Small Business Saturday
  • Christmas Banners

The Scavenger Hunt is a repeat of the successful event held last year. Each participating merchant hides a replica of a gnome in their store or business. Any person who wants to play uses a printed form with the names of participating stores listed. A participant must step inside each of the participating stores and hunt for and find the gnome to be eligible to win. Once a participant finds the gnome, the store representative stamps the participant's form. When all gnomes are found, the participant drops the form off to the Chamber office. On Dec. 12, a raffle will be held and the winner will receive a valued prize. Each participating business will be asked to contribute a gift card of a specified amount to make up the final prize.

The Small Business Saturday, set for Nov. 29, is a local effort to take advantage of a national trend to encourage Christmas shopping starting after Thanksgiving. Stores desiring to participate should contact the Chamber office. All participating stores will be featured in digital and print marketing efforts featured by the Chamber.

The Downtown Committee wants to help decorate downtown for Christmas. The group has agreed to encourage interested members to buy the selected Christmas banner, shown below. This is purely an OPTIONAL decision and if a member wants to participate in other aspects of the Chamber's Christmas efforts, the banner purchase is not mandatory. The price is $79.99 plus tax if you need the full hardware. Each business owner should buy their own flag from the page -- linked here -- on the Vista Flags website.

Postponement to Better Prepare Way for Economic Development Emphasis

The previously announced (but tentative) date of Nov. 13 for a proposed economic development discussion with key business leaders in the city and county has been postponed. The committee, headed by the Chamber's Katie Johnson, wants the event to be as effective as possible and they felt more time was needed to achieve that. The new date is to be determined.

Over all, this is an interesting undertaking. If you are interested in serving on this new committee or have other ideas for the effort, please contact the Chamber office.
