The Birdcage is Coming Soon
|
|
The Birdcage Breathes New Life into Familiar Space
The Birdcage, located in the former "Shooter's Bar" location at 927 Race Street, is planning a Grand Opening early in October after a late September opening was unfortunately delayed. The Birdcage is the latest entertainment and nightlife endeavor from the owners of The Butcher and Barrel, Ché, O'Malley's in the Alley, The Blind Pig, Gypsy's Mainstrasse, and Coffee at Lola's.
"We support equality, diversity, and inclusivity, and stand firmly against discrimination of any kind, and we ask that you do too!" says General Manger, Guy Ulam. Ulam brings his experience to The Birdcage from his years as the General Manager of Cincinnati's longtime bar, Adonis.
The cocktail menu, curated by Ulam, boasts fresh juices and unique spirits, with drinks named after tropical birds as a play on the bar's name, and are adorned with fun garnishes like candied fruit slices and lollipops, from local candy makers, Minges, Peter, & Son Confectionary.
The property, owned by Urban Sites, has undergone a series of renovations and updates that include a refinished floor, fresh paint, an eclectic collection of art and fine furnishings, updated lighting, and a state of the art sound system.
The Birdcage will be open Tuesday - Sunday, and is available for private events, on Mondays. Regular entertainment, including Thursday nights with DJ Jules' Studio 54 Throwback, and Sunday Fun-day Tea Dances from 4 - 7 pm, followed by "Menagerie," the city's newest drag show, hosted by Mirelle Jane Divine, from 7 - 9 pm. Additional themed entertainment nights will be determined in the coming weeks.
The Birdcage is an upscale LGBTQ nightclub and lounge that aims to be the premier destination for dancing, drinks, and entertainment, nestled between Cincinnati's business district and Over-the-Rhine.

AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk
|
|
Join the ISQCCBE to walk with our local team.
Event Details Walk Date: 10/14/2018 Walk Location: Sawyer Point Park - Cincinnati, OH Check-in/Registration Time: 10/14/2018 at 12:00 pm Walk Begins: 2:00 pm - Walk Ends: 3:30 pm
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: We are the leader in the fight against suicide. We fund research, create and administer educational programs that are based in science, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss and those who struggle with mental illness. Led by CEO Robert Gebbia and headquarted in New York, AFSP has 83 local chapters nationwide, hosting events and trainings to reduce the loss of lives by suicide and create communities that are having informed conversations about mental health.
Why We Walk: Every year suicide claims more lives than war, murder, and natural disasters combined, and yet suicide prevention doesn't get anywhere near the funding given to other leading causes of death. It's up to Walkers like us to make a difference. Together we can change the conversation about mental health and put a stop to this tragic loss of life.
AFSP Ohio Chapter was charted in 2017 after the 3 (North, Central and South) prior chapters were merged to form the AFSP Ohio Chapter, and we have had boots on the ground working in Ohio communities since 2004. Our dedicated volunteers have been working year round in the State to change the way our communities, schools, churches, professionals, family and friends talk and think about mental illness and suicide. For more information about AFSP Ohio Chapter activities or to learn how YOU can get involved in this movement, contact the Ohio Chapter of AFSP at Ohio@afsp.org

GLAST - Support Group
|
|
 According to SAMHSA (
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration), Peer support services are delivered by individuals who have common life experiences with the people they are serving. People with mental and/or substance use disorders have a unique capacity to help each other based on a shared affiliation and a deep understanding of this experience. In self-help and mutual support, people offer this support, strength, and hope to their peers, which allows for personal growth, wellness promotion, and recovery.
Research has shown that peer support facilitates recovery and reduces health care costs. Peers also provide assistance that promotes a sense of belonging within the community. The ability to contribute to and enjoy one's community is key to recovery a
nd well-being. Another critical component that peers provide is the development of self-efficacy through role modeling and assisting peers with ongoing recovery through mastery of experiences and finding meaning, purpose, and social connections in their lives. LGBTQIA+ in Recovery is FREE, SAFE, CONFIDENTIAL, NON-JUDGEMENTAL, EVIDENCE-BASED, PEER FACILITATED Only Requirements: -18 & up (or with parental consent) -Identify as LGBTQIA+ -History of substance use or compulsion -In Recovery from substance use and/or compulsion This is not a 12 step meeting.
