Soroptimist House of Hope
President's Message
|
An Open House celebration at Soroptimist House of Hope was held on September 15th along with a ribbon cutting to mark the beginning of membership with the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce. The community turn-out was heartwarming as we continue to offer the program of recovery to women in need of SUD treatment services. We hope to share the news of success to a larger audience through this business collaboration. We were also honored with a Proclamation of Appreciation from the office of Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia of 56
th
District, and presented to us by Miguel Romero-Ochoa from the Coachella office, thanking us for providing this service.
I attended a Non profit Leadership Conference last month sponsored by RAP Foundation aimed at developing better and stronger guidance toward roles and responsibilities of board members, and to forward the mission of our program.
Our Staff and members of the Board of Directors enjoy the outreach activities, the networking opportunities and the meeting and making of friends that these events bring.
We look forward to the next few months of activities and of course, the holidays that fill the calendar! We have an Alumni sponsored Christmas Party that is scheduled for December 11 and we will notify our friends with details as time get closer.
May the Fall Season bring happy thoughts and productive choices.
Sincerely,
TK

JULY - SEPTEMBER 2018
As the 3
rd
Quarter of 2018 comes to a close and Autumn is finally bringing some relief from the long hot summer, I continue to be filled with gratitude. We began providing Recovery Residence Services in Banning for women transitioning out of treatment and in need of a place to live while continuing their Outpatient treatment. This is going well and we now have 3 consumers placed in Banning and hope to have all beds filled with this new contract by January. In addition, we are beginning to provide Recovery Services as part of our DMC-ODS Waiver Agreement. These are support services that we have always provided but will now be reimbursed by the agreement. Our treatment facility in Desert Hot Springs continues to provide stellar services and are eagerly awaiting the finalization of the IMS Certification process. I have really come to understand and embrace that being thankful for each day makes the highs and lows of life a wondrous adventure. It is important to what I teach and it is important to how I live my life. May your holiday season from Halloween to New Year’s Day and beyond be filled with blessings galore.
Your support is deeply appreciated by our Board of Directors, our Staff and the women we help recover from the ravages of addiction.
In love and service,
Cynthia A. “Oma” Gray, CADC-II, ICADC
Executive Director

Annual Rotary Spaghetti Dinner
September 5, 2018
We attended the annual Rotary Spaghetti dinner that kicks off Stagecoach days in Banning. SHOH has been helping with this event for nearly 30 years and the clients enjoy it every year. The beautiful thing is the positive feedback we get every year for a job well done. It is a great community service opportunity and teaches the ladies about community and the joys of volunteering.

“I was blessed to meet several of you [Soroptimists] on our Idyllwild trip, A Day of Hope event and many House Showers. Thank you for wanting to know my story and helping me find some grace to be courageous. Just for today I will act in a way that I would admire in someone else…Thank you for this priceless gift!!” – Tamera B. July 2, 2018
Tamera was loved by all who knew her. She was an alumnus of SHOH and served off and on for many years as a volunteer for numerous SHOH events. Tamera had her struggles over the years but never lost her sense of humor. She was a Woman of Worth and loved her Lord with all her heart and soul. Tamera was very special to all of us at SHOH. She left us way too soon and is dearly missed by so many. RIP dear friend.

SHOH RECEIVES $50,000 GRANT FROM WEINGART FOUNDATION
We are proud to announce that we recently received a $50,000 grant from the Weingart Foundation. This two-year award has been provided as unrestricted operating support that we will utilize to strengthen both our program services and financial sustainability. Weingart is a leader of the southern California philanthropic community, and we are proud to be part of their commitment to social and economic equity so that every member of our community has access to opportunity. Weingart’s generosity will help us to provide effective substance use disorders recovery services to low-income women and support their efforts to become healthy, successful, and self-sufficient. We extend our sincere gratitude to the foundation as we join forces to achieve our shared goals.

"
Thank you for opening the doors of House of Hope to me. My stay here has been a life changing experience. My counselor, Leslee was able to help me cry when I needed to cry and laugh when I needed to laugh. She showed me my worth and value as a woman. I came into treatment broken, homeless, and hopeless. I am leaving with peace and forgiveness in my heart and excited about being a clean and sober mother to my beautiful children.
"
All my love,

"I cannot begin to thank you enough for the good you do for me and so many other women. This House of Hope has been one of the biggest blessings I have ever received. Everyone that has anything to do with this program is so special and so full of love. I had no hope for any kind of future until I came here. Now I see so many good things and day by day, one day at a time, I will gain acceptance of my husband’s death. I know that I have the tools now to go out in the world and never pickup drugs or alcohol. Everything at this house was beautiful from the food to the donations, to the loving counselors. I hope to one day be of service and help the way you do."
With all my love and hope,
L.

"
I would like to take this opportunity to express how grateful I am to have been a part of House of Hope. My journey here was not easy but it was well worth it and I eagerly anticipate the next phase of my recovery at the Banning Recovery Residence Hope’s Horizons. During my stay, I was able to build my self-esteem and self-worth. I learned how to work 12 steps and experience the beauty of spirituality and reunification with my family. My parents say that House of Hope saved their daughter’s life and my children also feel I am a better person from all of the help I received. Each one of the Soroptimist members as well as the SHOH staff have believe in my and for that I am truly blessed. As I continue on my journey, I will keep you all in my prayers and hope that SHOH can continue helping women as they have helped me.
"
Sincerely,
A.R.
