St. Jude School

Going Above and Beyond In Learning and Serving

October 22, 2026

A Note From the Principal:

At St. Jude, we want to encourage meaningful conversations at home that help families stay connected, build trust, and navigate today’s world together. We have started a new initiative called "Conversation Connection," where each week we will share a new conversation starter for parents and students to discuss together. These topics are designed to open the door to thoughtful discussions, strengthen family connections, and encourage students to reflect on important issues both online and offline.

Want to take it a step further? After discussing the weekly topic, students can share a thoughtful response using the attached Google Form. Each completed response will earn one credit toward a student dress-down day! Once a student earns five credits, they will receive one dress-down day.

We hope this weekly activity provides a positive way for families to connect with one another while also strengthening the partnership between home and school. Thank you for joining us in making meaningful conversations part of your family’s routine!

Let’s keep the conversation going, St. Jude!

Godspeed,

Principal Molly Hibler

Conversation Connection

little prompts, big conversation

In today’s digital world, our students in grades K–8 have many ways to connect with others through social media, messaging apps, video games, and other online platforms. Use these questions to guide your first weekly check-in:

1. What platforms are they on?

  • "What are your favorite apps or games right now, and what do you like most about them?"
  • "Do any of your games or learning apps have a built-in chat or messaging feature that I might not know about?"
  • "Have your friends started using any new apps or group chats lately?"

2. Who are they able to speak with?

  • "When you play or chat online, are you only talking to friends from school, or do you run into people you don't know?"
  • "Has anyone online ever asked you for details like your name, where you go to school, or to send a photo?"
  • "If someone you met in a game asks you to move over to a different app like discord or snapchat, what do you usually do?"

3. Reviewing access and parental restrictions

  • "How do you feel about our family rules for screen time and device use? Do they feel fair to you?"
  • "Let’s look at the privacy settings together on your favorite game. Who does it say is allowed to send you messages or friend requests?"
  • "If someone ever says something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, confused, or scared, do you know that you can tell me without getting in trouble or losing your device?"
