I normally like to greet you each month with something insightful or relevant industry news, and then include my headshot so you know it’s me. But I thought I’d shake things up a bit this month by including my palm print instead of my headshot. It’s still me, I assure you.
You may not be aware, but Palm Vein Recognition is actually one of the most reliable, secure and convenient biometric verification technologies available today. While there continues to be rapid adoption for face recognition, still there are many people who fear those organizations capturing their face images will misuse the user’s face image. There is even legislation around the world which prohibits the use of facial recognition. Leading social media platform recently deleted over a billion users’ face images.
However unlike facial recognition technology, there are no privacy concerns associated with the use of palm recognition technology. Palm vein recognition is touchless, fast-matching, convenient, and extremely accurate when utilizing an infrared camera to capture a user’s palm vein pattern. Many ZKTeco biometric readers have built-in near infrared (NIR) cameras. NIR cameras take consistently clear high-resolution images of a user’s face and/or palm in all practically all lighting conditions (near pitch black to bright sunlight).
Whether for recognizing an individual for releasing a gate, unlocking a door, replacing the need for passwords to gain access to a computer application, or for simply punching in & out of work, palm recognition is likely to rival face recognition as the fastest, simplest and most secure way for users to verify their identity without any associated privacy concerns.
Check out ZKTeco’s wide variety of SpeedFace terminals which can read a variety of credentials including a user’s face, palm, QR code, RFID card and/or PIN code. They all output Wiegand and OSDP. So they can enhance your current access control system, or completely replace it if you’re getting tired of paying for the replacement of physical credentials (i.e. keys, cards and fobs).
Kindly check out this newsletter and share your thoughts with me regarding your initial thoughts or actual experience working with Palm Vein Recognition Technology.
