Our amazing art teacher, Mrs. Hoeppner, created this Joy graphic for us to use this year!

Dear St. Alphonsus Catholic School Families,

This year St. Alphonsus Catholic School is focusing on the theme of JOY. We have images of what brings us joy in the main hallway, we will have JOY on our unity shirts this year and we are working on choosing to be joyful whenever we can. We started this school year at the first school mass a couple weeks ago with a relevant homily from Fr. Kevin on joy. The basic message was that in order to experience joy we need only to follow the spelling of the word. J comes first and that means that our first priority should be Jesus. O is next and this indicates that we should put others and their needs right after Jesus. Finally, Y is last and this tells us that we should put ourselves after only Jesus and others. If we follow this key from the word itself, we will be more likely to experience joy in our lives. This is, of course, more easily said than done, but it was an important message for us all.

This message is simple and impactful, and one that both the students and adults need to be reminded of more than we would like to think. Too often when we are not experiencing joy it is because we are not putting Jesus first or because we are putting ourselves above others. This serves as a simple reminder of our Gospel teachings. We hope that you will join us in trying to follow these words and choose joy all year!

As a reminder, next Friday, September 23rd, is a big day here at St. Alphonsus: it is FUN RUN day! If you have not already please register on mybooster.com to get started. We are already off to a great start so keep up the good work! Also, September 23rd is an early dismissal at 11:30.

Thank you for reading and have a great weekend!

Yours In Christ,

Russ Johnston

Students meet their potential classmates, attend classes in their areas of interest, and receive a personal tour of our building.
