Dear St. Alphonsus Catholic School Families,

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US REACH OUR FUN RUN GOAL!

Today was the Fun Run and it was a great success! Our students did a stellar job this morning and had a fantastic time. They greatly appreciated the energy added by all who came out to cheer them on! St. Alphonsus families did OUTSTANDING work and raised over $20,000 for our school!

I've decided to do a Water Balloon Principal Challenge for reaching our fundraising goal! Students will be allowed to toss water balloons at me, and we have a few other surprises in store. Please watch for more information coming soon.

Last, just a reminder that students who received a donation by Monday, September 19th, will be able to wear pajamas to school this coming Monday, September 26th. A shout out to Mrs. Gutche’s class for winning their teacher a Starbucks gift card and for earning an extra recess! You can see tons of pictures from this morning below, as well as on our social media accounts.

Thanks again to our St. Alphonsus Catholic School community for making this Fun Run so successful, and a special THANK YOU AGAIN TO OUR T-SHIRT SPONSORS!

Trunk or Treat Sign Up Now Open!

Please join us for our first annual Trunk or Treat, on Friday, October 28 from 5-7pm, where the kids can wear their Halloween costumes and go car-to-car trick or treating in our school parking lot!  Siblings are welcome--this is sure to be a great event for the whole family!

We are SO excited to be hosting this event and would love to have your support in hosting a Trunk!

What does it take to host a Trunk?

  • Arrive 30-60 minutes before the event begins to set up
  • Decorate your trunk (check out Pinterest for some fun ideas!) with child appropriate decorations
  • Supply and hand out candy to kids that trick or treat from your trunk
  • Be able to stay the entire event 5-7pm

It's going to be a great night!  Use this link to sign up to host a trunk.  Deadline to sign up is Friday, October 21.

Science Lab & Library Update

In the Science Lab, the new furniture will be installed on October 20 and 21! Pipes have been wrapped. Once the furniture is in, the floors will be updated. Everything has already been ordered.

For the Library project, the furniture was ordered this summer! Because some of the pieces are custom, there is a bit of a wait for it to be ready. Delivery is expected by December, but you can see a rendering of the new library shelving here!

Battle of the Books is Back!

Battle of the Books is Back!

Battle of the Book is a lively academic competition that improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, introduces students to new books & authors, and teaches teamwork, commitment, & sportsmanship.  The program culminates in a tournament in  March with other area Catholic schools.

Teams of three students each from Grades 4,5, and 6 read 45 pre-assigned books (15 books each) over the course of 5 months.  Titles are from varying genres with a wide range of reading levels and subjects.  Teams will gather monthly for individual practice battles and to determine ST. Alphonsus School's Tournament Champs (one per grade level).  The Tournament Champs will compete in the program-wide tournament in March.

Our first practice will be October 13.  This year we will have a $5 materials fee for each student participating.  Permission slips are coming home with all 4th, 5th, and 6th graders today.  You can also find a copy of the form here.  Please return to the office by October 7.

More Extracurricular Opportunities!

Join Youth Choir!

We are happy to announce that youth choir is back! We are inviting all students in grades 2-8 to participate.

You can learn more about how to sign up here.

Halloween Costume Drive

The 5th Grade Girl Scout Troop is doing a Halloween Costume drive this year!

We are collecting new and gently used Halloween costumes of all sizes which will be donated to kids whose parents might not be able to get them one.

Our "Halloween for every kid" drive will go through Thursday, October 20. Costumes can be dropped off in the box by the office.

Costume accessories and unopened makeup are welcome as well. Please no toy weapons.

Thank you!

To all school moms, please join us Saturday, September 24 at 9:30am for the first parish Women's Group meeting of the school year! Due to a funeral, our location for this meeting has changed.  It will now be held in the Parish Meeting Center in Room 101 (first floor, through the main doors).

Come join us for a cup of coffee and a discussion on why we love being Catholic. Feel free to share or just listen. All women are welcome, so come alone or bring a friend or relative. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Any questions, please reach out to Lauren Miller here

Applications for St. Thomas More High School are also now open.  Click here to start your application.

St. Thomas More Shadow Visits Are Open!

St. Thomas More’s shadow visit program gives prospective students the opportunity to experience a day in the life of an STM student. For an entire school day, interested students shadow a current STM student, learning more about the typical day at St. Thomas More. Students meet their potential classmates, attend classes in their areas of interest, and receive a personal tour of our building.

To schedule a shadow day, click here and complete the Campus Visit Request Form. If you do not receive a confirmation email with the scheduled date, your student is not signed up to shadow.

Pius XI Admissions Now Open

The Pius XI Catholic High School admissions application is live and we are excited and ready to work with you and your families through the admissions process.

The Pius Admissions Office sends out a monthly newsletter to all students with an account in Ravenna (the Pius XI admissions system). Here is the link to the first newsletter that was sent in August: Pius XI Class of 2027 Family NewsletterThe newsletter will include important updates, steps in the admissions process, links to register for events, as well as information on funding a Pius XI education.

Once again, Pius XI will be administering an entrance exam that is unique to our school. All applicants must take the Pius XI entrance exam to be considered for admissions. Applicants can register for the exam directly on the application for admissions. Pius XI also requests 6-8th grade report cards, standardized test scores, and a Pius XI recommendation form from each applicant’s middle school.
