From the GM’s Desk

Golf in Ontario has thrived throughout this unprecedented 2020 season. Ontario golfers have increased in numbers and in rounds played across the province. Here at Vespra Hills Golf Club we have experienced the same trend. Provincial COVID-19 procedures have actually had a positive affect on us in some ways. COVID procedures brought us The Lawn along with its spectacular views, the camaraderie, the outdoor bar and barbeque. The procedures have sped up play with flags being left in and bunkers not being raked. From a golf operations perspective, we found that we were more prepared as all members were booked ahead with no walk-in rounds. All of the above were well received and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of our members for respecting and adhering to Vespra Hills COVID-19 policies. Without your cooperation Vespra Hills Golf Club would not have been able to provide the enjoyable environment we have shared so far this season.

Moving into October we would like to make a few changes to our procedures to further reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure and ensure everyone’s safety. We recommend that members and their guests arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to their tee time and vacate the property within 30 minutes of finishing a round of golf, similar to how we started the year. Outside staff will be advising you to remain in your vehicle if you arrive too early. Our practice facilities will stay open but it remains imperative that you continue to check in with the Golf Shop. This important step is mandated by the Simcoe County Health Unit so that “contact tracing” can be accurate. Our locker rooms will also continue to remain open with no more than two people being allowed in at a time. This will not be policed, so please respect your fellow members when entering these areas. Vespra Hills Golf Club has decided to be proactive and close our Clubhouse Dining Room, including our Balcony, for the remainder of the season as of October 4, 2020. With the cooler nights upon us, we would normally move inside, however with COVID-19 cases on the rise we are reluctant to do so. Please remember that the decision to close these dining options was made with the health and well being of our members, guests and staff in mind. The snack bar will remain open with the BBQ menu available but we will no longer offer table service. Our servers will be happy to help you at the Snack Bar counter inside the Golf Shop. The Golf Shop has a limit of 6 people so please be patient and remember to physically distance yourself.

Lastly, Vespra Hills Golf Club requires that you wear a mask whenever you are indoors. Until now, we have provided masks as necessary, but we are into our last few boxes and will not be ordering any more this season. You are advised to bring your own personal face covering in the event that you need to enter any buildings.

We have had an excellent season to date and look forward to working with our members to have a strong and healthy finish.

Chance to Play Adare Manor (Virtually)
"The Augusta of Ireland"

Vespra Hills Golf Club is hosting a free event!

The weather outside is still beautiful as it is starting to change. We will soon be entering a colder time, which for many golf courses means the end of the golf season; luckily, this is not the case at Vespra Hills. In a typical November, many golfers would be searching for warmer weather to play golf in the winter. Fortunately, at Vespra Hills, we have our very own indoor golf simulators and lounge known as The Attic Golf Lounge, where the weather is always perfect and the drinks are ice cold.

The Attic Golf Lounge is available for booking all winter long to our members. To kick off what is bound to be an incredible winter season, we will be hosting our first indoor event starting on October 17th. Players may book a tee time any weekday between 8:00am-2:00pm from October 17th to November 15th. The event will consist of two-person teams, playing a 9 hole scramble, which should take less than an hour to complete. The event and 1 hour simulator cost will be completely free for any members at Vespra Hills who decide to register.

Registration will be available through the Golf Genius website later this week. Once registered, you may email Logan to book a time.

Step 1: Register at Golf Genius
Step 2: Email: logan@vesprahillsgolfclub.com to book a time

The event will be played at Adare Manor, often revered as the greatest golf resort in the world and deemed, "The Augusta of Ireland". Winners of this event will receive prizes in the form of free simulator time in The Attic this winter. The more participants that register, the bigger the prize. We look forward to kicking off this winter season with you all in style.
From the Golf Shop

Hello Vespra Hills Golfers,

September was outstanding at the club with some great weather and great end of season wrap up events.

The Ladies Section had a couple of good days to finish off the events season with the SolRyde Cup on September 19th. Team Sol’s Captain, Ann Sullivan, and Team Ryde’s Captain, Tracy Duvall, rallied their teams together and played a fun 6/6/6 match play format. It was very close through the first two formats with Team Sol taking charge in the final 6 holes to retain the cup for 2020. Thank you again to the Team Captains for this event, and all that players that got behind the idea and had fun with it.
The Women have wrapped up a successful season as they had their Ladies Day Finale the following Tuesday. We played a unique format named Women in Suits where you find out which 2 scores of the 4 players count for each hole, after you play the hole. Dinner was well received, and we had some fun with the year-end prizing and individual awards. Thank you again to the Ladies Team Captains and all their teammates for helping make the 2020 Ladies Day a success.

The Men had their final Men’s Day on the 24th and they celebrated the year end a little different than normal. The size of the league did not allow us to run a large get together, so the Team Captains all ran their own Team Finale Nights. It was great to see each of the teams come out and play, eat, and celebrate the season together. Team Who Dat? won the second half round robin and it was the Fore Players that took top prize back on September 17th in the overall League Finale Night. The Team Captains did a great job keeping their teams fired up this season and the players responded by coming out in great numbers all year long. It was an amazing year that we ended up having, and I think it’ll be even better next year!

Then there was the Masters. It was masterful indeed. We had 50 players come out with one goal in mind; To win the Green Jacket, and a lifelong exemption into this illustrious event. As we neared the event, more and more members become curious on where they stood in the Road to the Masters Order of Merit. Some saw that they were looking good and could relax, others needed to get into those last few events and either win, or place high enough to secure their spot in the event. The event itself was wonderful. The spirit of the day was so positive, and we had a great time starting with pimento and cheese sandwiches, the ceremonial tee shots, Amen Corner, Butler Cabin interviews, and of course, the Green Jacket ceremony. It was special to have the current Masters Champions Dave Grimshaw and Nianne Foley present to place the Green Jackets on our new Champions, Dan Coates and Tracy Duvall. There were many good rounds of golf played that day, and our two champions certainly fought hard to win. Tracy Duvall won by 4 strokes for a decisive victory in the Women’s division. Dan Coates went to a playoff against John Alpaugh on the ninth hole of the Sand Hills course. John Alpaugh had a putt to force a second playoff hole that lipped around the cup and did not fall, and Dan Coates confidently made his par putt to win this year’s Master’s event for the men’s section. Both Champions are sure to be great representatives of the event and the club, and now join a select group of members who can wear the Green Jacket, and be known as Master’s Champions.

Thank you to all those that helped us make the event a success. Sarah Cowan and the F& B Staff, Nancy Buchanan and Mark from the Turf Department , Chris Bruining for setting up the course and pin placements, Chef Cheryl for the Champions Dinner, Mark/Ben/Logan & Sarah for all of the Golf Shop support, and Dave Caldwell and Cinder Warren for supporting the event.
