Small group discussion of On Purpose: Finding God’s Voice in Your Passion to begin
This 4-week study, led by Pastor Kim,will meet weekly on Tuesday, September 19 at 7 p.m.
Sign up on the app or website. maplewoodumc.org
A little bit about the book: “We are hungry for a sense of purpose, direction, and calling in our lives. That’s as basic an ingredient to the human experience as they come. We want to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We want to participate in something that has eternal merit and lasting impact. We do not want to live a shallow, hollow existence. We yearn for deeper meaning, for deeper purpose within our lives. We want to be more than we are.
In On Purpose: Finding God’s Voice in Your Passion (the authors) help us see God's purpose for our lives, how to open ourselves to God's voice, and how to take the first or next step to follow God's call. Reading this book and exploring life choices alongside others, individuals will learn how to channel their passions, hear God’s voice, and live the life they were meant to live.”

The Family Album
Last Sunday afternoon was fun, Jesus. Our family got out all our old snapshots. Mom showed us again how great grandma had looked, all fixed up in a dress that came to her shoes. And dad showed us his family, all dead now except for him. I think I saw a tear slip down dad’s cheek as he lovingly handled those pictures and told us of him mom and dad.
But then we were laughing at the baby pictures of my brother and me. How could we be so dumb and helpless looking?
And we smiled and laughed at our vacation trips together. The time we went to California was the most fun, even if we did have car trouble.
As I looked at all these memories, Jesus, a great feeling of thankfulness started welling up inside me.
Our family is not perfect. We sometimes get angry with one another. I know, Jesus, that often it’s my fault when we toss insults back and forth. But we’ve had some great experiences together—experiences that sort of overwhelm me when we start going through the family albums.
Thanks , Jesus, for giving me a family that loves me. Help me to be more loving to them, Amen.

Mary, Kim and Jerry just completed a year long Stewardship Cohort led by Laura Murphy. By attending all 12 meetings, the Missouri United Methodist Foundation is giving our church $500. To receive this gift we had to open an account with the Foundation. We have transferred $1000 to an account with the Foundation so that we can receive this gift. Our money is available to us at anytime if down the road we would need those funds. | |

Caring Church FamShelly McBurnett is now not only the full-time mother of three wonderful children, she is also a full-time nursing student! We cannot help her when a child wakes up at 3am or needs help with a school project, but we can give her more time by helping with a weekly meal for the family!
I am so proud of Shelly for being accepted into nursing school! And for inviting us to walk with her this year.
Here is the link to the McBurnett Meal train:
