Mrs. Sagat Says...

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

I hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend after a great first week of school! It was so wonderful having everyone in the building and getting back to our routine.

The newsletter is packed this week, so here are a couple of important reminders from me:

  • A reminder again that the Early Childhood wing is entirely nut-free this year. This means NO NUTS OF ANY KIND, including peanuts, pistachios, cashews, hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, etc. It also means no Nutella, almond or peanut butters, cashew butters, etc. Please also note that Cougar Club is also a nut-free environment. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • This week is our Back to School Roundup! This is the same thing as Back to School Night. It will take place on Thursday, September 11 from 5-7pm in the Community Room. Park in the main church parking lot and enter at the church doors. You can stop in anytime that works for you between 5:00 and 7:00pm! This event is designed for parents to get to know their child's classroom teachers more and learn what expectations will be in those classes, so it is recommended that at least one parent from all families attend, if possible. All teachers will have a table in the Community Room. Please note that this event is intended for parents only, so we do recommend leaving the kiddos home. This will give you ample time to chat directly with your child's teacher, learn about classroom expectations and events, and ask questions! We look forward to seeing you then!

  • Do you need to report an absence or a doctors appointment? Please find absence reporting information below. Please note that emailing your child's teacher DOES NOT SUFFICE as notice of absence or tardiness--you MUST contact the school office. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • PowerSchool Forms were due Friday, August 31. If you have not yet filled out your health forms online or been able to access your tuition and lunch balances, please do so ASAP. All families are required to fill out the online forms, even if you are paying tuition with cash or check. The office is currently contacting families who are delinquent on their forms. If you have questions about access, please email Mrs. Andresen in the office for assistance.

  • The 2026-2027 Family Handbook is now available! You can find a link to our website as well as a PDF copy below. We had family handbook sign-off forms at Meet & Greet on Thursday, but you can also download one from our website. All families need to read and sign an acknowledgement on the family handbook. These forms are due September 10.

This newsletter is our number one communication tool to you as parents. We ask that you please read it thoroughly each week. Our school website is also a great resource for you and has lots of information available under the PARENTS tab at the top of the page. You can also always find an archive of our school newsletters on our website here.

Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday at Back to School Roundup!

Best regards,

Mrs. Sagat
Principal

Back to School Roundup is this THURSDAY, September 10 from 5-7pm

St. Alphonsus Community Room

Please park in the main church parking lot and enter at the church doors

Stop in anytime between 5:00 and 7:00pm. Visit the tables that pertain to your student--your child's classroom teacher, specialists, and more! Learn what your child's teacher will expect and cover this year and have a chance to ask questions.

This event replaces previous events known as "Back to School Night." It is very important for parents to attend, so that you can learn what classroom expectations will be this year.

This event is for parents only; if possible, students should not attend.

Forms, Tuition, & Absence Reminders

Health & Enrollment Forms were due Monday, August 31. If you have not logged into PowerSchool to fill out your forms, please do so by Friday, September 11.

Instructions for how to complete the forms are attached here. Please remember that these instructions are for the website, not the PowerSchool app. Although you can fill out the forms on the app, it is easier to do so from a desktop or laptop computer. The link to PowerSchool is below.

If you need a prescription medication form for your doctor to sign-off on, you can find that here. You can also find a copy of it on our website here. It is fine to download, have your doctor sign, and then return the paper copy of this form to school. All other forms should be filled out online.

One very important form to fill out is the General Consent Form for Photo, Video & Audio use. As a a reminder, this is the photo opt-in form that gives St. Alphonsus permission to share your student's photo in our school newsletter, on our social media, and on our website. Without a form indicating YES, your student CANNOT be shown in any capacity.

For questions regarding forms, please email Mrs. Andresen in the school office. Please note the spelling of Mrs. Andresen's last name when emailing questions about tuition contracts and PowerSchool forms: it is AndREsen, not Andersen.

Tuition Payments Reminder

Per your tuition contract, families have two options for paying for tuition. You may either:

  • Choose to pay tuition in full by September 1, 2026 OR
  • Choose to pay 10 monthly payments either through RevTrak or a check payable to St. Alphonsus Catholic School due by the 15th of each month from August through May. The amount of your tuition will be divided by 10 for this monthly amount.

This means the next monthly payment is due by September 15. If you have not yet made a tuition payment, please make it a priority to do so.

Tuition & lunch fees can be paid online via RevTrak. RevTrak is accessed through PowerSchool. On a computer or laptop: to access, you need to click on the BALANCES button, not the Tuition button. Please note that we do NOT utilize EduTrak, which is what the Tuition button at the bottom of the desktop screen in PowerSchool will take you to.

From the BALANCES page, you will see both tuition & fees listed as well as Meal Transactions. Click on the Make a Payment button on the right hand side of the screen to access RevTrak and set up your account/pay online. Please remember that you can always pay with Cash or Check by stopping in to the school office to make your payments. Online payments are not required, and everything will still be tracked in your PowerSchool account.

Instructions for getting your RevTrak account set-up are here and can also be found on our school website here.

Please remember that it is always optional to pay online, for both tuition and lunch. Families are ALWAYS welcome to bring a check or cash into the school office and we will write you a receipt for payment, for both lunch and tuition.

Family Handbook Sign-Off

The updated family handbook is here! We have put a copy on the school website in the Family Handbook section. A PDF copy is also available here.

The handbook contains our school's important procedures & policies. All families are required to read and sign-off on the handbook each year.

We gave out paper copies of the acknowledgement form at Meet & Greet. You can also download one from our website at the link above. Completed forms are due by Thursday, September 10.

Reporting Absences & Appointments

Student absences & appointments can be reported in two ways:

  • Call the office directly at 414-421-1760. Listen for the prompts and leave a message.
  • Email our Attendance Secretary.  The email address is attendance@st-alphonsus.org.

Emailing a student's homeroom teacher is NOT sufficient notice of absence or tardiness. All absences, early dismissals, or tardies need to be reported to the office.

Please note that per our handbook, any child who has a fever or has been vomiting or experiencing diarrhea should not return to school until 24 hours after that particular symptom is gone in order to avoid a relapse or spreading illness to others.

Cougar Club Calendars for the entire school year are now available online!

Calendars are always due mid-month for the following month. You can find calendars on our website on the Cougar Club page here. Please also refer to the 2026-2027 Cougar Club packet here so that you understand our late calendar fees. Scheduling staff is difficult when calendars are not submitted in a timely fashion, so please be sure you get those submitted on time in order to avoid late fees. Thank you!

Get Ready for the Fun Run!

St. Alphonsus Catholic School’s Fun Run is almost here!

What is the Fun Run? This is a school-wide fundraiser that gets all the students moving! Small tracks are set up in the school parking lot and students run, walk, dance and skip their way around to complete all 30 laps. It will be a fun morning with lots of energy!

What is our goal this year? Our goal is to raise $25,000 to re-design the STEM Lab to allow teachers and students the opportunity to use the space weekly and create STEM based projects throughout the year. The STEM Lab is upstairs in the primary wing and is a separate space from our Science Lab.

How does it work?  Next week you’ll receive a link to register your students on our Giveback website. Once registered, each student will have their own link to share with family and friends to collect donations.

In addition to the school wide goal of $25,000, there will be classroom goals and prizes this year! Students will work as a team to raise funds and as they reach each level they will earn classroom prizes such as popcorn and a movie, extra recess and even a pizza party! There will also be special nightly and weekend challenges for students to earn additional rewards!

Fundraising will kick off on September 16 when the Fun Run committee will visit classrooms to tell students all about the classroom prizes they can earn. Families will have 10 days to approach friends, family, neighbors and coworkers to make pledges to your student(s).

The Fun Run will take place on Friday, September 25th. Weather permitting, the run will be held in the parking lot. St. Alphonsus families are invited to come out and cheer our students on!*

Grades 3K through 3rd will run at 8:15am.

Grades 4th through 8th will run at 9:15am.

*In the event of rain, the Fun Run will be held in the school gym. We kindly ask that parents stay on the bleachers at all times for the safety of our students and staff.

If you have any questions about this year's Fun Run, please contact our Fun Run Co-Chairs, Dawn Eisold and Olivia Hartley

Thanks in advance for your support of this FUN event!

Lunch Menu - September

Our First Pizza Lunch Fundraiser of the Year is Friday, September 18!

Order forms were sent home last week, and you can also download a copy below!

Please note that there is NO HOT LUNCH OR MILK served on this day, so if your students are not ordering the pizza lunch you will need to send a cold lunch. LATE ORDER FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED--NO EXCEPTIONS. We are held to tight deadlines by the vendor and must have the order forms by Friday, September 11.

A copy of the order form is attached here. Return forms by Friday, September 11 with cash or check for payment. Exact amounts only, no change will be given. One form per child but families can use one envelope.

We also need volunteers to help serve the pizza lunch to students. This is an easy one hour commitment and you can sign up for all the dates you are available at one time. The sign-up genius can be found here. All volunteers must be safeguarded.

Safeguarding Information

Time to Think About Safeguarding!

If you are new to Catholic Schools or St. Alphonsus: You are REQUIRED to be safeguarded if you would like to volunteer for St. Alphonsus School events or in your child's classrooms, AND if you would like to attend field trips as a chaperones. There are NO exceptions to this rule, so get your Safeguarding requirements done now! This includes grandparents and any other family members who may want to volunteer or help at school, as well.

In addition, as a reminder, all families who want to host a trunk at our annual Trunk or Treat in October are required to be safeguarded. Adults cannot host a trunk if they are not Safeguard-certified, so take care of it now so you are not disappointed!

St. Alphonsus is offering one more September Safeguarding session. It will be here at St. Alphonsus in the Community Room on the following date:

September 9 at 5:30pm with Rachel Kroes

To register or learn more about the Archdiocese Safeguarding Program, please visit their website here. Registration is available on the left hand side of the page, and instructions are attached here. You can also reach out to Christine Gozdowiak in the parish office for any questions or assistance needed with registering.

Other Important Reminders

Mass Dress Code

This is just a reminder about our Mass dress code for students in grades 5K through 8th Grade. On Wednesdays, we wear our embroidered sky blue Mass polos. Below is a visual reminder about what other attire is considered ok for Mass!

The big thing to remember is NO HOODIES AT MASS, even if they are in the sky blue color.

On Mondays, we wear the blue unity shirts you picked up at Meet & Greet. If you are still awaiting your unity shirt, they are coming soon. In the meantime, unity shirts from the last two years are also allowed on Mondays and can be worn interchangeably, as long as they have our "Small School, Big Faith" logo.

Room Parents Needed!

We are in need of room parents for the following classrooms: 3K full time, 3K part time and 7th grade.

Room parents provide valuable assistance to our teachers by being the classroom liaison between the teacher and classroom parents. If you are interested in being a room parent, please email Dawn Eisold and include your name, phone number, email, child’s name and grade.

All room parents must be safeguarded.

Thanks for volunteering!

The Student Lector Program Returns!

We are happy to announce that our Student Lector program is returning again this year! Do your students in grades 3-8 love to read at Mass? Consider signing them up to lector on select Sundays!

Our fall dates are now available here. We will also need gift bearers!

Students practice with Mrs. Schermetzler on the Thursday before weekend Masses.

Mrs. Hoeppner is collecting the following items for the art room this year:

  • Toilet paper tubes
  • Paper towel tubes
  • Cereal boxes and 12-pack soda boxes--or any similar weight of cardboard
  • First Day School Supply Kit boxes
  • Paper egg cartons

Supplies may be dropped off at the school office to Mrs. Hoeppner's attention. Thank you!

Fall Extracurricular Opportunities!

Guitar & Ukulele Club is Back!

Mrs. Greco will be offering a Guitar and Ukulele Club from 3:00-3:45 pm on Thursdays. This is an opportunity for students who are interested in the guitar or ukulele to learn their instrument in a small group setting. Both beginners and experienced players are welcome! Space is limited to 12 students in 2nd-8th grades.

The club will start on Thursday, September 17th and meet weekly through December 17th.

The cost for Guitar and Ukulele Club is $50. If you are not able to cover the cost but are interested in joining, please let Mrs. Greco know.

School guitars, amps, and ukuleles are available for students to use during the club meeting time, but students will need their own instruments if they would like to practice at home.

If you are interested in joining Guitar and Ukulele Club or have questions, please email Mrs. Greco by Friday, September 11th.

Please note that where referenced below, "K" refers to 5K. 3K & 4K students are not eligible for these extracurriculars. Click the flyer below to be taken directly to the registration website!

Battle of the Books Returns This Fall!

When school resumes in the fall, we will again be inviting students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to participate in Battle of the Books!

Battle of the Books is a lively academic competition that improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, introduces students to new books & authors, and teaches teamwork, commitment, & sportsmanship. The program culminates in a tournament in April with other area Catholic Schools. It is a lot of fun!

If your child is interested in joining, they can get a head start by reading a few of the books from this list. We will have registration information and meeting dates available once school starts.

Happy reading!

Mrs. Bruhn & Mrs. Schermetzler

Youth Audition Opportunity at Pius High School!

We are searching for talented students in grades 4–8 to join our theater department for this fall’s dynamic and immersive performance of Shakespeare's "Macbeth."

This fall we will be creating an immersive Shakespeare experience where the story moves beyond the stage—through hallways, rooms, shadows, and unexpected encounters. Actors and crew will help build a living world of ambition, prophecy, power, and betrayal, performing scenes throughout the school, including hallways and creepy corridors moving with the audience and making every moment feel immediate.

Come ready to take creative risks, collaborate with a large cast, and create an event where theatre audiences won’t just watch—they’ll participate.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 8th from 4:30pm - 5:30pm at Pius XI Catholic High School.
