Serving Berkshire County Since 2008
 Greetings!
Every time I see this top image on the right, I can't help but think, why aren't more people grocery shopping online with us?

Not having to deal with bundling up, driving to the store and trudging through the snow would be a welcome treat right now, wouldn't it?

What is stopping you?
If you enjoy local and organic food, have you checked out our low prices on produce?

Right now, there are no additional delivery fees even if you do not order a produce basket! So you can select all the items you need online, have us grocery shop for you, and have the items delivered to your door at no additional cost!

Plus, you can feel good knowing you're supporting a local business, local farms and our local community.

Our delivery drivers, Chad and Cliff, (pictured above) went above the call of duty last Thursday and got all of their deliveries done for North and South Berkshire County. We want to thank them for being an amazing part of the Berkshire Organics team and for doing their jobs safely. While we did receive some criticism on social media, we want to clarify that the storm hadn't started when our driver's left on their routes and they always have the choice to come back if they find the conditions to be unsafe.  We have delayed deliveries for inclement weather in the past and will do so again if needed. Here are just a couple emails we received from our wonderful customers last week:

"THANK YOU for letting your driver deliver my order today! It was "priceless" in the middle of this heavy snow storm to have his smiling face deliver my fresh fruits & vegetables! I was also able to quickly empty the "official" green basket & hand it back to him! You always deliver wonderful produce & service, but today you all went "above & beyond"! Your rating of 1-5 stars was a 10! You have always had me as a customer, but after today, I will be singing your praises to everyone!"

"Just wanted to thank your delivery driver for going above the call of duty today! With the storm I was not expecting a delivery today.... my very long and steep driveway was not plowed and the wind was blowing wildly! I look out the window and there he was walking up the impassible driveway with the green box with another box on top!!!! That is dedication!!!!!!! Please let him know how much he is appreciated! He has always gone one step extra for me.... this time it was many steps!"

Viewpoint: Meal-Kit Companies
A few months ago, we did our own cost comparison between Berkshire Organics and meal-kit companies such as Blue Apron and Hello Fresh. We will share that newseletter comparison again in the next few weeks.

This week, our sister company, South Shore Organics, take another look at "Meal-Kit Mania":

"I have been watching the meal kit company space develop with great interest over the last year or two. I’ve overheard people talking about how convenient it is, and how there is no waste, and how it all seems too good to be true. And it is. Not only do meal kits take all the spontaneity out of cooking, but they fly in the face of all ethics we value and cherish."

Featured Recipe
Polenta with Sauteed Vegetables
My meat-loving husband has been making this meat-less polenta dish at least once a week (sometimes twice). It's a great way to use up whatever veggies are left in your refrigerator. Our favorite vegetable saute combination seems to be mushrooms, grape tomatoes, peppers and onions. This meal is incredibly satisfying and comforting.

There is no formal recipe. Just follow the instructions on the polenta package to get the polenta to "firm up" or set. Cut the polenta into wedges and grill it in your cast iron pan to heat it through. Top the polenta with your own favorite sauteed vegetables. We like to garnish with fresh basil and parmeson cheese. Enjoy!

Local Parsnips Only $1.99/lb this week !
A nice mix of cold-weather veg, cut into smallish pieces and roasted at high heat, which means the edges get a bit charred just as the interiors soften.
