Message from the General Manager
We have always been a dirt biking family. When I met my husband, he would go riding in the Ganaraska with his friends on the weekends and take part in local races. To me, it was the normal thing to do on a weekend. After we got married, he would go riding in the SCORRA trails, adventuring out on the Wildman trails, and exploring all that Simcoe County offered. Things changed when we had our boys. My older son had a passion for dirt bikes, he would wear his helmet around the house and even fall asleep with it on. We got him his first ATV at a year old. Yes, it was one of those battery-operated ones, but he would ride it until the battery died. When he was talking more, he would tell us he wants to be “a dirt bike man” when he grows up. He got his first real dirt bike, a CRF50 when he was 5. He loved that dirt bike more than anything and would ride from the moment he woke until it was dark. Dirt biking became the norm in our household, with everyone participating. At the time, we lived on a farm so we could use our own property, but that got boring. When he was old enough, my husband and my oldest son joined the OFTR. I will never forget the excitement on my son’s face when he saw his own membership card and his very own sticker. He proudly attached his sticker to his helmet and put his membership card into his wallet. The two of them would hit the Lawden Track and go on their own adventures. It wasn’t too long before my second son wanted to join them as well. The three of them would hit the trails and come back covered with mud but with giant smiles on their faces. These were memories that would last a lifetime.
After moving to Dufferin County, we found out that there were no legal trails in the area, and Dufferin residents were riding in other areas in the province. Annoyed, I put on my advocating hat and started making phone calls, sending emails, and talking to local municipalities. This brought me to the Dufferin Rooftop Recreation Riders. I joined the board and started advocating with the team to bring legal trails to the County. I met so many passionate people who all had the same goal. These relationships will last a lifetime.
These days, I spend my weekends between trail riding or attending local motocross races, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. This community, our community is a family, we are all here because we have a passion. I am a proud OFTR member, and I am proud to be the General Manager of the OFTR. So if you see me on the SCORRA trails, at a club event, or at a local amateur race, reach out and say hello. I am always happy to talk to our members and want to hear your stories too.

SCORRA FAMILY FUN DAY - UPDATE

Scorra Family Fun Day
On Jul 17, 2022 Simcoe County Off Road Riders Association hosted their Family Fun Day. The event was very well attended with many families coming together to enjoy the beautiful day. The event was held at RJ’s Raceway just outside of Barrie. The facility offered something for everyone to enjoy. The main track and mini track were open, trails were open and the facility is close to Simcoe County Forest Tracks.
The “slow” race was fun to watch as participants showcased their core muscles and balance, SCORRA has some great prizes up for grabs, including a new set of tires.
Sur Ron electric motorcycles were there with free test rides, with a lot of interest and questions coming from the crowd. These bikes are light, quiet, and fun to ride.
The volunteers went above and beyond, from the yummy lunch to the seamless registration process. You wouldn’t have known the event had taken a two year hiatus due to covid, as everything ran so smoothly.
We are looking forward to next year’s event, it really was a Family Fun Day!

KORMA Ladies Thrill & Chill Ride
by: Stephanie Yankovich
The weather gods blessed us and the sun shone brightly on Saturday, August 13th, for the 2nd annual KORMA Ladies Thrill & Chill ride. Over 30 intrepid ladies gathered in Kinmount, ON, ready and raring to tackle the heady mixture of sandy singletrack and gnarly, more challenging rocky sections that make Somerville Forest one of the premier riding locations in Ontario.
The route was intended to appeal to all ages and skill levels, with a variety of terrain designed to challenge both novice and intermediate riders. With so many riders, the ladies were divided into several smaller groups guided by Stephanie Yankovich, Rally Connex’s Laura Penwell and Rose Lantaigne, assisted by a handful of trail helpers and sweepers, including Ian Peters, Jeremiah Buwalda, Jeremy Jauvin, Mike MacLeod, and Scott Kerr. Volunteers are the lifeblood of these rides and these events are made possible by the generous donation of their time and commitment to our sport. We couldn’t do it without them!

The day was divided into morning and afternoon loops that covered approximately 50 kilometres of smooth, flowing single track, rocky and rooty ascents and descents, and even a few water crossings where the photo opportunities abounded. The ladies took it all in stride, rallying and helping one another through the tougher sections, offering support and encouragement along the way.
After completing the morning loop, the groups met back in Kinmount for a well-deserved rest, a fabulous boxed lunch provided by Fresh Fuell, prize draw and hoodies, before once again heading out for the more challenging afternoon loop.
Many thanks to all of our local clubs for hosting events such as these and especially for their promotion of women in our sport.
The next ladies ride is being hosted by the Northumberland Trail Riders (NTR) on Sunday, August 28th, so make sure to sign up!

For Adventure riders, (semi-aggressive), routes have been created that share some of the scenic tour but also include power lines and ATV trails. The Aggressive ride is for bikes limited to 650 cc or less and knobbies are mandatory. All riders should have shin, elbow, chest, hand protection and proper boots. GPS tracks will be provided for those wishing them, but we will provide leaders where necessary. All dual sport rides will be swept.
