When a Code Blue is issued in the City of Ithaca, St. John's Community Services (SJCS) leads the community's response and offers vital services during this cold and bitter time of year.

In 2016, NYS created a state-wide Code Blue program designed to protect homeless individuals from freezing temperatures.
The policy directs local social service agencies to provide emergency shelter for all individuals experiencing homelessness when the temperature or windchill reaches 32 °.

Due to a shortage of beds, SJCS partners with local churches and motels throughout the county, as well as the Salvation Army in downtown Ithaca, to ensure that shelter is provided for all those in need.
If you would like to help SJCS in their efforts to support those experiencing homelessness during Code Blue emergencies and year round, the agency is continually in need of the following items which can be dropped off at their location on 618 W. State Street in Ithaca from 9am-4pm:
Towels Bars of soap Shampoo Deodorant Razors
Tooth Brushes Socks
