AVV is still here! In this post-election season, while the campaigns shutter their operations and move-on to their next mission, AVV and our team of volunteer Veterans and civilian Mission Partners continue to review our progress, refine our strategy and plan for future success. While the newsletter may have slowed down, our pace and intensity has only increased as a result of the success of Veterans in the 2021 Virginia Gubernatorial election.
Our concept that Veterans have a powerful political voice proved true in the past election, thanks to you. AVV now goes into our off-election cycle focus of training, gaining new members and refining our goals and objective for future elections.
Details of AVV's mission, principles and pathway ahead can be found in the attached one-page summary. The essential element in any success AVV enjoys is YOU! Without your interest, involvement, talents and commitment to unifying our political system we cannot be successful.
Thank your for showing the power that Veterans bring in this past election and we look forward to increasing that power in the days ahead.

As Americans prepare for the holiday season and our AVV Veterans and civilian Mission Partners finish a long, arduous campaign season, it’s appropriate to reflect on our collective efforts and give thanks for our accomplishments.
This past election was a “proof of concept”; that Veteran involvement is essential in unifying what is often a divisive political landscape. AVV's positive approach in helping Veterans Vote, Volunteer, Run for Office is proving powerful and effective.
Here are three broad areas where AVV brought value during this past election:
- Acknowledging the Political Power of Veterans.
- Organize and mobilize Veterans around four guiding principles.
-
Deepening relationships between Veterans and their communities.

A Veteran's Voice

As we enter the holiday season, like many veterans, I’m remembering times when I observed some semblance of the holiday in an overseas location. One of those memories is a standout for me. In 2008, I was commanding a Provincial Reconstruction Team in Paktya province, Afghanistan. Combined with the separation and distance from families back home, many faces reflected the challenges of the difficult mission we were undertaking in our corner of the insurgency. The privilege of serving alongside these incredible men and women gave me a whole new appreciation for the core value of service before self. At a time when our politics has grown increasingly polarized and paralyzed, Veterans like those I served with in Afghanistan offer a ray of hope. Veterans understand this call to selfless service implicitly.
