Hello Dear Readers:
What an extraordinary time in history we are experiencing globally. Stranger than fiction is an understatement. I suppose that never before have we, as a species, been pushed and challenged so much to elevate our humanity worldwide. Above all, I hope you are not letting fear take over for that will deplete you emotionally and stress is what lowers our defenses.
At my 25th year celebration, I spoke about the need for us to come together as a community to face difficult times. Of course, I was merely thinking of the possibility of 4 more years with Trump. Some may wonder which is worse. But this? This is different. To me this experience has a mystical dimension that is profound and that is forcing us to make time for all the things that we did not have time for before. One of the many videos I've received had an interesting message: "this is not social distancing but rather physical distancing." Now we have the time to be social via the internet, that up to now, God bless us, is holding up fine. Our culture, in the U.S., is to be productive and busy. This will be a specially trying time for so many of us. I say, we make the most of it.
Back at the ranch, or better said, back at Chile Lindo HQ, we are fortunate on many levels. We are allowed to operate. It's always been a take-out operation, a very small staff, and our staple product is easy to pack and deliver. I have made an arrangement with a friend that drives for Lyft that is making deliveries. In order to cover the entire Bay Area, I have concentrated the orders to a specific area per day of the week, which lowers delivery costs for everyone.
The schedule for deliveries is as follows:
Wednesdays: South Bay
Thursdays: East Bay
Fridays: North Bay
Please order the day before or no later than 1:00 p.m. on your delivery day.
In San Francisco we deliver Monday through Saturday
Payments are made through credit cards only, once you've received your order, this way there is no direct contact with the driver.
For bookkeeping reasons, no PayPal or Venmo payments.

As a favor, please share this newsletter with your contacts.
I am grateful that I can keep my staff on payroll still, but that will depend entirely on orders, for our regular customer base, like so many other businesses, is all but gone.
Please stay positive at this time. Isabel Allende just published a fabulous new book, "Largo pétalo de mar" ("A Long Petal of the Sea"), that I think you'd enjoy reading. I highly, highly recommend it. My friend Kate Rosenberger Razo owns Dog Eared Bookstore and she has copies in Spanish and English. To order directly you can e-mail

One of the things that impressed me about Isabel Allende's new historical novel is that so much of what she narrates--people's aspirations for change, passion for wars, capacity for cruelty and love--continue be at the crux of humanities historical events as if we go in circles rather than forward. I suppose like our DNA, a double spiral helix, we head who knows where. None of us will ever know, no matter how much technology we develop or how many economists forecast GDP annual growth rates. The joke is on us once again, isn't it?
Finally, here's a
YouTube
link to Isabel Allende discussing her new novel in her characteristically witty, charming, and professional manner. She so deserved the Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded by President Obama.
¡Fuerza a todos!
