HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY

Karl Hartwick (Haliburton, ON) sent us some links on hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). SSNHL is included as an indication.

PRURITIS

CANCER SCREENING IN ADULTS

Updates, controversies

best-cancer-screening-for-women image

Decisions and discussions around cancer screening can be challenging and require shared decision making and an understanding of the genetic, social, and behavioural context of patients. This module focuses on a review and updates in breast and prostate cancer screening, with secondary mention of colorectal, lung, and cervical cancer screening. The use of tools to assist with these patient-centered conversations about cancer screening will be reviewed.

WOUND CARE

Chronic Lower Limb Ulcers***

Chronic wounds are those that do not progress through a normal, orderly, and timely sequence of repair. They are common and are often treated incorrectly. This module aims to review the process of wound healing and offers a systematic approach to improve chronic wound care, specifically for venous, arterial, and diabetic foot ulcers. This includes an interprofessional approach that aims to treat “the whole patient, not just the hole in the patient.”

*** PRACTICE IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITY (PIA): This module has an associated Practice Improvement Activity. For more info, log in to the Members' :Portal and visit the “My Practice Improvement Activities” section in the main navigation menu. PROGRAM NEWS AND NOTICES

PBSG members: Become a roundtable participant to help with Module Development!

clasped-hands-sky.jpg

WHAT IS A ROUNDTABLE?

This is a critical step near the beginning of the module development process where the writing team and 3 additional family physicians from across the country engage in a 2-hour Zoom meeting to verify the practice gaps and objectives for the module, discuss and refine the draft cases, and provide suggestions for critical information to be included in the module.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO YOU?

Participants consistently find these to be a great learning experience as they participate in the discussion with colleagues from across Canada. There is a $250 stipend to partly compensate you for your time. As well, you can claim 2 hours of MainPro+ credits under the “non-certified” category for the roundtable, plus any time that you spend reading the background articles under the same category (usually 2–3 articles, about ½ to 1 hour).

The network will utilize the secure mobile platform, Signal, where members can connect with fellow primary care providers, share valuable resources, and benchmark their practices. Our goal is to provide members with an interactive and supportive community that enriches their continuous professional development and facilitates the implementation of new knowledge into clinical practice.
