Join Javier Morales, MD, FACP, FACE, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and colleagues for a CME-accredited activity on diagnosis, management, and respectful discussion of the medical implications of overweight and obesity.

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the burdens of overweight and obesity and related comorbidities
  • Evaluate the role of current and emerging pharmacotherapy along with lifestyle change in development of comprehensive treatment plans for patients
  • Summarize best practices for discussing overweight and obesity with patients in a respectful and nonstigmatizing manner

In the United States, overweight and obesity are highly prevalent, with 70% of American adults affected by either condition. Overweight and obesity are associated with multiple potential medical complications, including metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), osteoarthritis, obstructive sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular complications, among others. Recognition of the potential complications of overweight and obesity, along with respectful, nonstigmatizing discussion and implementation of novel management strategies, are crucial to improving outcomes for patients.

Some Good News For Primary Care:

The 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule

If you have been following health care news lately, you may have heard about something called the Medicare physician fee schedule. While it might sound technical—and, truth be told, it is—it could not be more important to you as a family physician, whether you are running your own practice or working for a practice.

The Medicare physician fee schedule is how the federal government determines how much physicians are paid for the care they provide to patients covered by Medicare Part B. Each year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updates this schedule, which affects millions of patients and the physicians who care for them.

While that might sound like an issue only for Medicare patients, the impact reaches much further. Payment rates set by Medicare set the trend for what other insurers, such as Tricare, Medicaid and private health plans, end up paying you for providing care. That means the Medicare fee schedule plays a central role in shaping the entire health care system, from your local clinic to hospitals nationwide.
