KNP Konnections

From Our Editor, Nancy Allenby

"December...is a time when the spirit of humanity shines brightest." Michael Josephson

Throughout the season of thanks and giving, KNP embraces opportunities to SHINE light into our community with holiday cards, cookies and letters, wood deliveries and sharing our message that help is available, and opportunities for volunteerism abound! We are so THANKFUL to have such wonderful volunteers, community partners and donors who GIVE of their time, talents and resources to make a difference every day in the Kearsarge region!

Window Dressers Build

3rd ANNUAL WINDOW DRESSSERS COMMUNITY BUILD was a huge success as our fabulous team built 193 interior storm windows and re-wrapped another nine from past years. Sponsored by KNP and Kearsarge Climate Action, the build occurred Nov. 6-12 as volunteers created re-usable custom interior storm windows to save energy and heating costs for our neighbors in the region. Grant money and a private gift allowed us to offer 50% of the window inserts at no cost to the recipients. As one volunteer shared, the build was "the perfect blend of caring for the environment, helping our neighbors, meeting new people and sharing great food. " Many thanks to St. Andrews Church for generously hosting the week-long build, and to all of our volunteers, shift supervisors, greeters and food providers! If you participated in the build, please remember to log your hours on Better Impact or if you're not a member of Better Impact, email us to tell us how many hours you worked.

New Long-Sleeved KNP Shirts

OUR SHIRTS JUST ARRIVED! We will email you and arrange to get them to you as soon as we can. Please have your $20 ready when you pick them up, either in cash or a check made out to KNP. We ordered one extra shirt in each size, S-XL, so if you didn't get a chance to order earlier, email us to see if your size is still available. We're looking forward to seeing KNP'ers out in their new shirts in the coming weeks!

Bridges Out of Poverty Workshop

OVER 180 PEOPLE FROM THE REGION gathered in Wheeler Hall at Colby-Sawyer College November 6 from 8:30-3:00 for a Bridges Out of Poverty workshop. Seated with others eager to hear about addressing poverty, or together at tables of community organizations, schools, churches and social service providers, we learned from national presenter Prue Pease how we can better understand and address the challenges faced by our neighbors living in poverty. Speaking from first-hand experience, Prue explained the differences in viewpoint for those who live without adequate financial, social, emotional and other resources, in a world that operates on middle-class norms. We hope to host Prue again for a follow-up mini workshop later this winter to talk about strategies we can use to help our neighbors. Organized by Kearsarge Neighborhood Partners, the workshop was generously supported by First Baptist Church, First Congregational Church of Wilmot, St. Andrews Church, Our Lady of Fatima and the Sunset Hill Educational Institute. We thank our partners for helping us provide this opportunity for the community! If you attended the workshop, please remember to log your hours on Better Impact, or if you're not a member of Better Impact, simply email us to tell us your hours.

Holiday Cards and Cookies

WE LOVE TO TREAT OUR NEIGHBORS with a dose of holiday cheer this time of year! Volunteers are baking cookies and delivering them to us in early December so that we can package the cookies to take to KNP neighbors that we've had the honor of serving this year. Other volunteers will be signing KNP holiday cards for our neighbors, as well as for our MUCH-appreciated community partners and donors.

We're grateful that you're part of the Kearsarge Neighborhood! We wish the best of everything for you and the people you care about in 2026. May your holiday season be full of hope and joy!

Come to the Festival of Trees

WE PLAN TO DECORATE A KNP TREE to be displayed at the Festival of Trees, an event sponsored by the New London Recreation Department and the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce. Each tree depicts a local business or organization and will be on display at Whipple Hall from Dec. 21-31. The public comes through to see the beautiful, decorated trees and can make a donation if they wish as they vote for their favorite tree. All the donation money goes directly to the winning tree, for that organization or for a local non-profit that they designate. Come see our tree and vote for KNP!

The Seedling Fund Project

BE BOLD...BE INNOVATIVE! KNP's Seedling Fund Project team invites anyone who resides or works in the Kearsarge Region with a vision for promoting community to consider applying for funding. Have an idea for promoting connection in the Kearsarge Region? We are excited to share with you this generous 3-year grant toward initiatives encouraging neighbor-to-neighbor connection! Check it out!

Alternative Gifting Opportunity

BEAUTIFUL KNP GIFTING CARDS featuring the original artwork of local painter Caroline Bouton allow you to make a donation in someone's honor, or in their memory. A wonderful opportunity to let someone know that you support KNP, the cards are the perfect gift for the person who has everything. Quality five by seven cards have a message on the back explaining what KNP does and letting a recipient know that you have made a donation to KNP in their name.

Suggested minimum donation is at least $10 per card. Simply make a donation online or send a check to KNP at PO Box 1442, New London, NH 03257. Let us know by email how many cards you need, and we will arrange to get them to you!
